If she's at home, that'll work fine. But I don't know how you would know if she's away at school until it's too late.

She's residential at the college, but it's close enough that I could make her commute if needed. And I make her come home on the weekends, which avoids a lot

That seems a bit extreme to me; I'd be sad if I didn't have any of my weekends at college my freshman year. While I didn't go to many parties, I did enjoy attending football games, getting involved in campus activities, volunteering, going to cultural events..

There's lots of bad stuff that might happen to kids when there at college, but there comes a point when you've got to provide them with the tools they need to protect themselves and just trust them enough.

Good dad. If my daughter went away to college. She did not since the college she attends is about 6 miles away. I would buy her a handgun and have her take shooting lessons. Then I would make sure she applied for a conceal carry permit in whatever town she went to school in.
Nothing like a gun to bring about true equality of the sexes.
She would also have a big mean dog if she lived off campus.
