A MAN who claims he mistakenly had sex with "the wrong woman" after entering a dark bedroom at the home of a Sydney magazine editor was yesterday committed to stand trial for rape.
Paul John Chappell, 31, was invited back to the editor's Bondi flat after they met during a night out. The pair went to bed and Chappell later got up to use the bathroom. But Chappell claims he mistakenly returned to the wrong bedroom, where the editor's 23-year-old flatmate was asleep.
He got into bed with the flatmate and initiated sex, allegedly believing she was the other woman. The flatmate participated because she thought it was her own boyfriend who had come to bed after falling asleep in the loungeroom. When she turned on the light, the "hysterical" woman saw Chappell in her bed and realised her boyfriend was still asleep on the couch.
"He thought he was having sex with the person he went home with. "The (alleged victim) says she believed she was having sex with her boyfriend. She made a mistake as to who she was having sex with and so did the defendant."

If I were not so pure, I might want to ask whether the woman in the dark bed room was better looking than the woman he went home with. Thank goodness I am pure.
Yeah, it's just rape, rape, rape. All the time rape.
And indeed that seems to be the story.
Just two dogs copulating. How can there be a rape charge?
Haven't we all done that before?
My own theory. They were having consentual sex, then the boyfriend showed up.
That's called a first marriage.
Funniest Post of the Day.
It also must have been one of those "sensory deprivation" rooms as well.
Given that the room was real dark, what does it matter?
ROFLMAO!
To know who you are consenting to is the womens responsibility.
This sounds much like an incident from New York several years ago.
A young man was using roof tops as a way to get around one night. As he passed a open window in some manner a young woman told him to hurry in. He did as ask and they engaged in sexual intercourse. She thought he was her boy friend who she had been waiting up for. He was charged with rape and either the charges were dropped or he was acquitted.
That's an interesting point. If a room is dark, does it matter whether you are in bed with Helen Thomas or Nicole Kidman?
Moderator, flog this poster.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!
LOL!
"Alcohol may have been involved"
Silly boy ~ they got caught, that's all.
"Silly boy ~ they got caught, that's all."
Perhaps. It would certainly explain a weird situation. The only problem is that is in none of the information at hand. Additionally methinks the accused would have said as much right out of the gate and again, according to the minimal amount of information we have, he is not contesting the sequence of events. Of course we all having fun speculating on a very short article.
