I am attaching some pics from the blackhawk flights I went on, the countryside is absolutely beautiful. Lots of dried up riverbeds this time a year.
You can see some of the compounds- usually the whole family (including extended family) lives in that one area together. There they do everything from laundry washing to cooking to keeping their livestock. We saw an old castle, some of the caves in the hills, lots of sheep and cattle.
It was interesting, we would fly over and a lot of people and children waveing at us, and it was really neat to be able to see the little things; laundry hanging across the compounds, children herding cattle, a bunch of camels too (can't forget the camels :-) and women working in the fields. It is an amazing country.
Her father flies a AH-64 in the same unit, and she has two brothers and a cousin in Iraq. They have all received some extra-special Hobbit Hole thank-yous many months ago.
Very cool note from her, I'd like to see the pictures! Her father in the same unit eh? That's interesting. She's a cutie pie. I'm a jealous of her, getting to go do that.
Evening Winmag; great pic and story; thanks for posting them.
great perspective... every country has it's own unique characteristics and beauty... too bad we gotta deal with shitheads... some people jest need killin'...
Wow, a family effort! A great big THANK YOU to all of them!
