The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Do daycares get guvmint money for every kid diagnosed with a disability?

Schools do. I wouldn't be surprised if kindergarten/daycare outfits didn't have a scam going for SSI payments.

No fair!

He couldn't have postponed it for a couple of lousy weeks?

hehehe... well, I'm not on the guest list. Though, it sure would be fun to go to one someday. It'd be worth some bucks to do. Unforgettable experience, I'm sure.

At this point, I just hope it doesn't foul traffic too much. :-)

The house is the house of a MS Vice President of something-or-other. It's a fundraiser for Rep. David Reichert.

Irony is Riechert's challenger is a Dem who is also a former MS Manager. :~)

Battle of the Microsoft Managers :~D

Basically, she said that she thinks I should have Alyson tested because she feels that Alyson's inability to sit still or follow instructions for more than a moment could be a sign of ADHD or even autism.

ohferfrickincryinoutloud...

Tell that woman to bite yer backside. Heck, give me her number, she can bite mine too.

First, let me qualify that I believe ADHD ~is~ real and does happen. BUT, four-years-old is a good three years early to even try to diagnose it.

We went through all of this with Jr. when he was in second grade. We read all the research and took months to agree to the diagnosis and treatment.

I have made it clear that I will NEVER do that again. Luke has continual problems with sitting still. Church is more of a problem than school. But he's advanced in reading and math. I'm just waiting for the school to suggest he be "tested" at which point there will be a blow-it-out-yer-shorts moment for the Stormhands family.

There will be NO medication for behavior issues. I will regret that we allowed that to happen to Jr. for the rest of my life.

Trust me when I tell you I know what I'm talking about.

Been reading about kid problems... You'll get them figured out. I remember at my high school graduation, the principle hands me my diploma and said "Your mom often wondered if you'd make it here". :~)

Kids.. Can't live with 'em, can't sell them for scientific experiments...

But in just four more years I can send him to buy the likker...

What puzzles me is how it seems that the other kids in the school that are Aly's age don't appear to behave that way.

Unless she's convinced the parents to medicate them.

Or, maybe it's just that most kids start daycare very young - so they're used to it. Aly isn't. She wants to go home.

I'll see if "Joy of Cooking" has a good recipe for Mini Bunny Bits.

LOL. Off to look for tile pencils, wish me luck...

Although, I should add that Aly ~has~ been the victim of other kids in that school.

She's been bitten and pinched on a few occasions.

And yet, the only physical injury I've ever heard that Alyson has done was slapping a boy for snatching a toy from her. But no biting and such.

Maybe it's just me, but if I ran a daycare, I'd rather have a hyper kid than a biter. ;-)

Oh the horror! Children aren't supposed to be home!

We can't win, can we?

When Theboy went in for testing at five, the teacher said it was odd because he knew all his sounds, but missed a couple of the letter names. I told her it was because I had been teaching him the sounds and not too concerned about the letter names. That doesn't really help with reading anyway.

Now, he just finished second grade and did very well on his Iowa Basic Skills Test:

Reading 96%
Language and Math 95%

The girl did even better...what does it mean that she is equivalent to 12th grade 1st month in Social Studies?

I see a few areas where we need some work (48% in encyclopedia), but their thinking skills are very high. Ok, I'll stop patting myself on the back...actually it doesn't have as much to do with me (the nagging school teacher) as it does with my man's genetics and God's grace.

Kids are great...but you only get one chance. Do your best, don't sweat the small stuff, and never let anyone tell you that your child needs meds...very few do. Most kids (theboy included) have ants in their pants. Keep them busy, make them work/play hard, love them and beat them every day. :-) You're doing a fine job Ms. Dupree! Oh, I forgot the most important thing....PRAY!

Oh, I dunno.

We sorta think we screwed things up so badly with Jr. that when he was 10, God gave us Luke as a second chance...

Keep pluggin' away.

Sometimes, I feel like I can't get a moments peace, but I check those thoughts right away. They'll be gone before I know it and then I'll have too much peace and quiet. They are with me for such a short period, that it's only right for me to sacrifice my time, while they're here, for them. It's the selfish/sinful part of me that says "You deserve a little break..." Like G'nad says, "You can sleep when you're dead. :-)
