The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Good! You sure need a good laugh right about now to chase them tears away. They're good folkses too, even if they do smell a little rank. ;o)

I'm off to go worm the hosses. Hopefully I won't end up with more of it on me than in them. Get a good hug from your man when he gets home and it'll make it all better. Seeya tomorra!

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Evening All!

Poor little kitty! When would she be able to come home?

I finally made it in....bags are not here yet. *Sigh*

We waited on the runway in KC for an hour because they weren't letting planes land or take off in Chicago because of the weather.

Missed my connection (this is probably where the bag went astray.) Got re-routed to BWI and then to Raleigh.

They held the plane in BWI for us...I think. They were sure ready to go when we got there.

That shine in the cabinet is looking pretty good right now.

Yeah - it's sad, but I'm better. Been a roller coaster. Homer's shadowing me and consoling me (or asking me to console him), he loves a good drama and he could tell I was upset. He's a good boy :~)

Poor baby lamb!

You did all anyone could have done for her, the darling. And you will be blessed.

All down one long aisle of the forest the undersides of the leafy branches had begun to tremble with dancing light. Some kind of procession was approaching us, and the light came from the persons who composed it.

First came bright spirits, not the spirits of men, who danced and scattered flowers soundlessly falling, lightly drifting flowers. Then, on the left and right, at each side of the forest avenue, came youthful shapes, boys upon one side and girls upon the other. If I could remember their singing and write down the notes, no man who read that score would ever grow sick or old. Between them went musicians; and after that a lady in whose honor all this was being done.

I cannot now remember whether she was naked or clothed. If she was naked, then it must have been the almost invisible penumbra of her courtesy and joy that produced in my memory the illusion of a great and shining train that followed her across the happy grass. If she was clothed, then the illusion of nakedness is doubtless due to the clarity with which her inmost spirit shone through the clothes. For clothes in that country are not a disguise: the spiritual body lives along each thread and turns them into living organs. A robe or crown is, there, as much one of the wearer’s features as a lip or an eye.

But I have forgotten. And only partly do I remember the unbearable beauty of her face.

‘Is it? . . . is it?’ I whispered to my guide.

‘Not at all,’ said he. ‘It’s someone ye’ll never have heard of. Her name on earth was Sarah Smith and she lived at Golders Green.’

‘She seems to be . . . well, a person of particular importance?’

‘Aye. She is one of the great ones. Ye have heard that fame in this country and fame on Earth are two quite different things.’

‘And who are those gigantic people . . . look! They’re like emeralds . . . who are dancing and throwing flowers before her?’

‘Haven’t ye read your Milton? A thousand liveried angels lackey her.’

‘And who are all those young men and women on each side?’

‘They are her sons and daughters.’

‘She must have had a very large family, Sir.’

‘Every young man or boy that met her became her son—even if it was only the boy that brought the meat to her back door. Every girl that met her was her daughter.’

‘Isn’t that a bit hard on their own parents?’

‘No. There are those that steal other people’s children. But her motherhood was of a different kind. Those on whom it fell went back to their natural parents loving them more. Few men looked on her without becoming, in a certain fashion, her lovers. But it was the kind of love that made them not less true, but truer, to their own wives.’

‘And how . . . but hullo! What are all these animals? A cat—two cats—dozens of cats. And all those dogs . . . why, I can’t count them. And the birds. And the horses.'’

‘They are her beasts.’

‘Did she keep a sort of zoo? I mean, this is a bit too much.’

‘Every beast and bird that came near her had its place in her love. In her they became themselves. And now the abundance of life she has in Christ from the Father flows over into them.’

I looked at my Teacher in amazement.

‘Yes,’ he said. ‘It is like when you throw a stone into a pool, and the concentric waves spread out further and further. Who knows where it will end? Redeemed humanity is still young, it has hardly come to its full strength. But already there is joy enough in the little finger of a great saint such as yonder lady to waken all the dead things of the universe into life.’

~smiles~

Thank you so much :~D That's a very sweet passage!

And I have to smile, because I sit here with tears in my eyes, and I look down, and see THIS.

That sad, pitiful, dutiful, sweet face.

Evening Hair - so sorry to hear bout the kitty, as all the rest have said, you did the best that was able to be done.

That is a simply great picture of Homer, our animals know when things are going well with us and they know when things are going badly with us.
