The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

C'mon, you should move to Washington... everybody's doing it!

Yep, if ever there was a time I was in the mood to move, now would be it. What with the dog killing my chickens and the John Travolta wannabee music minister and the PBATS, I'm ready to go.

But I do hope we get to stay in OK, just because it would be so much easier on us!

I'll put Steve on the prayer line for a successful and SHORT, job search!

Heh heh...not really looking. Homeschool laws are too intrusive. I'd be telling people to blow it out their shorts left and right.

I've thought about it though, how I could maintain my Oklahoma citizenship if Steve did get offered a good paying job in a homeschool-unfriendly state, you know? If I could say "I don't have to follow your state laws concerning homeschooling because I'm actually an Oklahoma resident and we're only here temporarily."

Don't know how I could do it thought.

Thank you!

I'd like to live in Bartlesville...that's a nice place.

The way I see it, if enough of us move there, we can open up our own private school anyway. ;-)

Heh heh!!

Seems like there ought to be a way to still be considered an Okie resident...I mean, travelers do it all the time, live out of a travel trailer and only go home occasionally...like to vote and such.

I wonder how they do it.

You know, there are travel trailers out there that are practically as big as my house! I'm thinking we could scale down and buy one of those big trailers, move in and hit the road for a couple of years!

There are a number of advantages to living the RV lifestyle.

You can live in warmer places during the winter and cooler places during the summer for one! :-)

I'd like to travel around the U.S. for a year in an RV when I retire.

No scoffing here, chica. It's really easy to do in this day and age with cell phones and e-mail.

Having a physical address isn't really necessary, but it's nice to have a home base!

Already found a good book...even talks about homeschooling "on the road".

Some friends of ours sold their house when they retired, bought an RV, and toured the U.S.

Took 'em a couple of years, but I think they visited every state in the Union, including Alaska. Haven't heard from them in awhile - they may still be on the road!

Hubby and I have too much "STUFF" to live out of an RV. When we retire, we're going to buy some land and have a small house and a BIG pole barn . . . for all the STUFF.

I don't have much. I'd have to find a place to store the Bug for a while. I could fit all the stuff I wanted to keep in a small storage unit and could throw out, sell, or give away everything else.

It wouldn't be for forever...just for a while. Till Steve gets a transfer or something.

And it's all very just something I'm mildly considering at this point. The only jobs he's applied for have been in Texas so far and their laws are very similar to OK.

I hadn't heard from you in awhile and didn't realize you had all this going on . . .

. . . we're pulling for ya. TX homeschool laws are very lenient. Even GA's aren't bad - I pulled my youngest out of public school and homeschooled him for 2-3 months, even though I work full time he came to work with me and did his work quietly in a corner of my cubby. He learned more in the 2-3 months than he did the whole time at public school. And that was supposed to be a GOOD public school . . .

call fer fire......

Here's the M19s, next to the Steiner. The M19 is not tiny, it just looks like it compared to the German ones.

binocs3.JPG

The M19 was the last gasp at producing "American" binoculars. It was intended to be modular and easily repairable without special equipment, but not enough spare parts were ever built. The glass itself is Japanese, while everything else, including the design, is American.

Good classes, but the optical quality of the Steiners is considerably better.

Well, it's a good thing for this little thing that I brought her in. Two vets looked at her, and both decided there was no way she'd survive birthing... there's at least two VERY large kittens they could feel, probably more, but like the vet said "Doesn't matter how many there are if the first one is too big". I don't know what she weighs, but the total weight of her on the table IN the crate (the exam table itself is a scale) was 11 pounds.

She's advanced but not yet full term, and the options discussed were to put her down, wait till term and do a c-section, or do a c-section and spay now. That's what I decided to do. What else can I do? She was purring on me. I didn't want to wait, and risk early labor at home that would end badly. If the kittens are alive and viable, they'll save them. He wasn't hopeful they would be. He didn't feel them move at all even when he squeezed them, but he said that's not always telling.

I talked to the vet a long time (I have a lot of history with this vet). We talked about how we had brought our kittens in early to be fixed so we WOULDN'T HAVE TO DO THIS!" and asked "Why do these things always end up on my doorstep?" I have a reputation as a sucker softy, I guess. He said "Well, look at the size of your file here... And I know there have been more that are in the deceased file".

Sigh, sometimes it's a hard world for the little things.

I left her there... they'll work her in today.
