I'm ~waiting~ for some visitors :~D
So, gardening/yard question to ponder.
First, tomorrow we finish the front flower bed and add impatiens. That and some bee balm, another pampas grass plant and Nana's "high geranium" are all I ~intend~ to plant this year. But don't hold me to that.
What I'm thinking though is that out in front of the house, along the driveway to the mailbox, I want to put in a new flower bed/garden. I'm thinking day lilies and ornamental grasses, with bulbs etc.
Question is, what's the best time of year to think about doing that? I've got to kill the grass and get the ground ready. Should I start that process in late summer and plant in the fall? OR should I plan to plant next spring?
Discuss.
Viggo just broke his foot.
Liberal moron.
Yeah, that's the best time for tulips and daffodils. I'm just tryin' to figure out the best time to plant the ornamental grasses and daylilies. And really, just when to make the whole bed altogether...
I've got another spot in front of the garage that I want to turn into a flower bed, but I'm waiting on that until I can put in a brick sidewalk.
I think you plant ornamental grasses and daylillies in the spring. You could do one of those deals where you put daffodils and spring-flowering bulbs in this fall so they'll bloom in the spring and put the grasses and daylillies in in the spring.
Dunno how much area you've got to dig but....
you could start on the whole bed and see if you have time to put annuals in before it gets really hot.
Heh. The way my spring is in, I'd advise to get started on that bed as soon as you can. I've got stuff to put in the ground and no ground (well, not enough) prepared for them.
Ramius and Ruthy are here!
And we're hungry... gonna go to Trospers.
Rosie, can you meet us there when you get off work? We'll keep a pint cold for ya :~D
I'm actually thinkin' time wise the fall works better. I can start preparing the bed in August when the grass is dying anyway...
It comes in pints?
Corin, good thoughts, we suggest late summer and early fall so the roots have a chance to get established before winter.
I'm having one!
Ok not yet, but since I am leaving work now... soon.
Plus it means I can put it off until then. ;-)
~meanwhile~
I love the Edoras theme...
Well, if you want to get started sooner you could dig out the grass and carefully transplant it to those 'problem areas', watering it well and then work the formerly grassed areas carefully, several times, thoroughly mixing organic potting soil and peat moss (hand gathered from a nearby marshy area)into the bed area, and it will be ready for the late summer or early fall planting.
hmmmm...sounds like work...;-)
Yup, :-)
Not actually necessay either. But using potting soil and some starter fertilizer will increase the chances of survival.
We'll see if this becomes more than a dream.
Mmmm... yeah, that's a pretty piece.

I just thought I would send you a note to see how you are doing. Things here have been slow then something goes on then it gets slow again. Kinda like a roller coaster. EOD is very happy with the axes and crash crew is thrilled with the Lagana. One of the Corpsmen I gave a rescue knife to has actually used it several times to cut Camis and a Flack jacket. He loves it. Thank you very much for these tools as they have made a difference.
Regards,
GySgt D.
*snort* I'm impressed by your forbearance!
