The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Just means I'm dizzy from trying to get it all...

Tryin' to decide if I'm gonna tackle the backyard, or just chicken out. The backyard is mostly a cinch by comparison, but...it's another project. ;-)

Cut a moat around the edges, fill with water. Set lawn on fire. Repeat twice a year. No more grass problem.

I want *more* grass, not less. ;-)

It'd be easier to mow if I could just do straight lines. Right now there are lots of bare patches or patches of baby grass, so I'm just wiggling all over the place and hoping I get it all.

It is indeed another project. You have about an hour before dinner, earlier if you want to come over and visit earlier... :~D

I guess I'll start on the first half...can do the other half and the other side of the house tomorrow.

I'll leave time to clean up, so's I don't come over reeking of gas. ;-)

Hey men of the thread... Rosie's blade on her mower has a rattle in it and it won't tighten. I don't know if she just hit one rock too many and it's got a wow in it or what.

We thought about trying to just get a new washer and lock washer for it, but I'm not thinking that's gonna do anything. We can tighten the bolt, but it doesn't make the blade sit tighter.

It wasn't always this way. Rosie, did you hit something with it the moment it started making that racket?

It mows OK - just makes a racket... Doesn't look like it's gonna fly apart. But part of me is wondering if it's not wearing out drive shaft or something to run it with the blade rattling.

As I recall, I was going over one of the mounds near the fence in back and it died, and when it started again, that's how it sounded. I turned it over and didn't see anything - I didn't notice the blades were loose 'cause I didn't check that.

I suppose it *could* be as simple as the blade being banged up so badly it's out of kilter and working itself loose?

It didn't look dented, but it might have a big wow in it so it no longer sits flat.

On my way in a minute here.

Ya know, I think Cisco can tell when it's a Monday night, though I dunno how. He's always overly excited all evening.

Hopefully he isn't a pain in the neck...

Well, I didn't ping my hubbit because he was over there with me and he's already seen it. He tightend the bolt down, but that didn't make the blade sit tight.

Oh - I guess I should have pinged the brother type... But he's more likely to stare at it awhile then take it to the repair shop than actually fix it himself :~D
