The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Yup. I love to grow corn, but I don't have anywhere that has both sun and water, where I can plant it. So saw these started ones at the store and thought they were real cute :~D

They're in the part of the yard by the gate that gets the most sun as anywhere... We'll see :~D

Well, good luck with that. I don't have nearly enough sun to grow corn. Perhaps next year, if I can get some trees down.

Well, I don't really have enough either... We're feast or famine... Rosie's got no shade, I've got no sun... except the pasture, and out there I have no water.

Heh...my b-i-l just told me Jr. asked to borrow his Camaro to drive to the prom. Mrs. had mentioned this to me last night.

Uncle S said "I stopped short of saying HELL NO!"

I told Jr. "Uncle S remembers being 17."

I refrained from also saying to Jr. "you remember about five years ago when Uncle S couldn't drive for a year?"

I still can't quite believe Jr. even asked. He can't even drive a stick...

Heh... my parents pulled that "can't drive a stick" thing when I learned to drive. Their cars are manual so we could never take them. And then I got my car and realized I didn't want my younger siblings driving it either so I got a stick ;-)

My b-i-l has offered to teach Jr. how to drive a stick. But he's not loaning out the Camaro.

Too bad I don't have a picture of our pecan trees with corn husks hangin' from them.

I don't think they'll go after the corn out there, but we'll see. Not only are they very well fed with food that's easy to get to (a whole coffee can of sunflower seeds and peanuts a day), with three cats and two dogs around, they don't venture too far from the trees.
