Well, we look forward to the pictures :~D
That's how I remember it, anyway...
It's progress... it's always a lot of work to move. How long have you been where you are?
~They~ say it "builds character."
Nearly 10 years... the garage contained the contents of Rose's mother's house mostly... stuff that we've never gone through before. So basically, we're moving the contents of *two* houses. Well, one's done now...
Tough job. Lotsa work.
Wow. You sure put my move into context! I will not gripe for another day or two at least.
You need help!
This is one time when it'd help if all your virtual friends were a lot closer!
201 boxes? I have about 20!
But just barely.
Here's the truck we rented Saturday morning. It was cool, and breezy, and DaBear is smiling because, at this point, we thought we'd spend a few hours cleaning out the garage, and have time left over to move the boxes going from the house to the apartment's garage:
And I was too ashamed to take pictures of the garage, but here's an idea of how junky it was:
We moved several boxes into the truck before realizing that many of the boxes, which had been packed up between 1989 (when I moved out) and 1995 (when I emptied out my mother's house), were huge (24" x 18" x 18") and stuffed full of paperback books. Or hardback books. Or notebooks. Or comic books. Or magazines. These boxes were too heavy to move (I don't know how the previous movers did it!) and, after all these years, they were falling apart when we tried to move them. So we had to stop everytime we came across one of these bottomless pits and repack the contents into smaller boxes. That's basically what we did all day Saturday --- grab a box, find it was too heavy to lift or was falling apart or both, make up boxes, go through the contents and repack whatever was worth saving, and stack the new boxes. Lather, rinse, repeat.
It was a VERY long day.
This morning, we got up and finished the process. Now the truck looks like this:
That's 201 boxes, plus occasional tables, baskets of various descriptions, a couple of wall maps, a collection of bulletin board art, ancient Christmas decorations, and other frap.
The garage now looks like this:
The tall heap of boxes are the ones we had to replace --- we didn't take the time to break them down. We will, by next Tuesday, so they can go with the garbageman on Wednesday.
Here's the interior of the storage place:
Ours is on the second floor, but, thankfully, there's an elevator ---
Here's the first load of boxes in the storage area:
And here it is all filled up:
As you can see, DaBear is durn sweaty. Moving 201 boxes in 48 trips will do that to ya ...
He started at approximately 3:45pm, and finished at 7:20pm. He gets a BIG round of applause from me!
Step Two has already been started ... I called the movers and told them we would be postponing the move, originally scheduled for Monday morning, to the coming Friday/Saturday/Sunday. We will spend the rest of the week readying the house for a move.
Step Three: Move the furniture (but not the boxes) out of the house.
Step Four: Move the boxes ourselves.
Step Five: Move everything else.
We kept looking at each other this weekend and solemnly swearing, "This will never happen again."
Oh dear! Well, good work Bear, and Rose! It's never as easy as it looks! Now I hope soon, you go through all those boxes and separate the treasures from the stuff you don't want to move again :~D
It's not going to build up like that again.
Oh. Wow. I'm... horrified. Good job, you guys. I hope you have lots of ibuprofin for tomorrow.
Twas a sneak preview to get to sort through it a little. These are Rose's mom's things? Aw - they'll be bittersweet to go through. Take it carefully. :~D
I am going to have be very careful about accepting clutter. I don't want to think about how bad moves will be in ten years.
