New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |

Still round the corner there may wait |

Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Treasurer just reminded me she lives on a lake...

There you go then...
But busted backs are...
I suppose now the tarp's been down forever, it's possible I *could* do the whole thing by hand if it turns out the rototiller's cost wayyy too much to rent.
Oh dear...
That was so sweet what you said on that other thread... especially the bit about taking over the world...
You could get some pigs... Pigs are excellent at rooting up ground.
Heh...somehow that doesn't sound like a good idea... ;-)
Considering the damage our neighbor's pigs used to do when they got loose + stink + adding Cisco to the mix...
That = bad news. Vey bad.
OKAY - so pigs are out...
We'll keep thinking.
But I think pigs are good for disposing bodies too...
Ewwwwww.
No, pigs are *definitely* out.
Besides, I need my table scraps for the compost heap. I don't have enough for pigs.
Do you have any idea at all what a rototiller costs to rent?
Maybe I *will* just shovel. At least I could probably get the older plot done...and leave the other for next weekend. I want to at least start herbs and lettuce and a few fairly hardy vegetables.
and the corn...
Lew Rents... 5HP machine that can dig through the sod that's there...
$26 2 hours
$47 4 hours
Smaller machines cost a little less, but not enough to make up for the fact that they aren't as powerful. IOW, with a smaller machine you beat yourself up and it takes longer.
So there's that. Would you rather spend money or energy? Both would work.
Well...if I could get it done in about two hours, that wouldn't be bad. Especially as it's a one-time deal, really. On the other hand, if it takes me an hour and a half to figure the thing out...
Shovels, I understand. Power tools, I don't. ;-)
How does fuel work for things like that? Do they take something special? Does the rental place include any?
Cool, we need to get a minigarden done for karateboy. If we don't herruy up and do it, it won't get done this year. Here is the link to what we are considering. It's the green one that snaps together for a vey small 4X4 garden. We are aso going to check out Lowes and see what's available there for cheap.

They're 'probably' 4-cycle engines like your mower, that would take regular gas... Otherwise, they'd likely sell the oil if it is a 2-cycle. Alternately, I've got some. I don't know if they'd rent it full or just with 'whatever was in it from the last guy'. But it won't burn a lot. Sortof like your mower.
The only reality I'd add to the situation is that ecurbh and I are planning to go trail riding on Sat Morning. So we wouldn't be around to help then. We could let you borrow our little pickup to haul the thing in (assuming it'd fit under the canopy, and it might not), but we'll have the big truck. And we wouldn't be there to help unload it unless you did this in the afternoon. Sat afternoon is the Kentucky Derby and we definately want to watch that.
Sunday, we're free. but it might rain.
You could get some pigs.... :~D
Do a little at a time...3" deep...then 6" deep. It's easier once the ground is first broken.
I think goats work better. But you really have to grind up the bones.
