The Hobbit Hole XXIX - Until the stars are all alight...
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 04/20/2006 2:10:46 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Until the stars are all alight

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I don't think we'll get more...not till we get that bit of land. Then we'll do it up right, electric fencing and such.

My neighbor (the one that lives between us and the house the dog came from) said that the dog had been giving him problems too...digging under the fence in to his yard and tearing up his yard. Come to find out the owner of the dog lived in an apartment complex and the complex made her get the dog out because it was causing havoc. So her sister was who it was staying with. Now that sister has been ticketed and will have to pay a fine, get all it's shots and register it with the city before she can get it back. Will cost her a fortune. If she does these things, I'll be content (if she keeps it contained) and perhaps she'll take being this dog's owner seriously.

It is a gorgeous dog...pale grey German Shepherd...five months old. But it acted wild as a coyote.

My neighbor said he was sure sorry about the chickens...said "Those chickens never bothered anybody!" He said he was glad the dog was gone.

It's a shame...but a dog like that needs a firm alpha owner or it will dominate. So many otherwise fine dogs have been ruined because of bad owners.

I can't stop crying.

My heart is breaking for you guys. What a tragedy and waste of life. More hugs to you and the boys.

Well, I'd recommend getting a couple more hens, chica.

For so many reasons, I can't begin to count.

It's just such a shame. Maybe wait on the chickens, but it might be nice for the jedis to have some sort of pet in a month or two...

True enough Hair, it doesn't appear the sister is all that invested in a dog that isn't hers. It sounds like the dog has not been getting the best of care. The dog placed with the right family could be a great pet.

I told him we'd come between seven and seven thirty. If it's at all decent, I'm buying it.

Want me to FReepmail the address?

I'm against anything that claims to be the "Godly" or "Biblical" or "Holy" way to diet.

I'm with you. I feel the same way about bumper sticker theology. Just because my car isn't plastered with WWJD doesn't mean I'm a heathen. Regardless, I haven't read the Maker's Diet and probably won't. But if you step back and look at the Bible as an anthropological record of historical foodways and the culture surrounding food, it is truly fascinating. How many of the stories and parables *don't* involve food? LOL. (Ok, there are a few) The reviews I've read of the M'sD make it sound like it embraces what I call the nutritional natural law, what most would call common sense: old fashioned, home-prepared foods are good for you, that balancing daily stress with prayer or quiet reflection is good for you, and that fresh air, sunshine, and exercise is good for you.

Hi Rocko!

Hope the move is going well. I have one of those scheduled for the end of June.

I'm a computer geek, I think we have a firmly held belief that sunlight will actually kill you. Or is that vampires? I always mix us up with other undead.

Well, as long as you supplement with Mountain Dew you'll be ok. :P

You probably want to clean off the back porch and bring them in that way, eh? Depending on what it comes with, we might have to stop and get some dryer vent hose too. And some way to screen off the opening under the house so mice don't get in it.

Maybe I better come over and look.

It's a drag, but then, all moves are. Good luck on yours. My only advice is: Goodwill as much as you can NOW!
