There have been several articles stating the lacrosse coach was warned more than once about the boorish behavior of his players. And the one guy is charged with assault in Washington, DC.
The assault was pretty typical college boy junk--mouthing off after drinking and ONE punch was thrown. Really no big deal.
Show me some stats re: the lax teams vs. the student population as a whole with regard to "boorishness," and that might matter some tiny bit. The "boorishness" I've read about includes such capital offenses as public urination and disorderly conduct.
The fact is that every university has an uncomfortable relationship between the oh-so-enlightened faculty (and their indoctrinees) and the jocks. The fact that these kids were part of a easily identified group doesn't mean their behavior is any more "boorish" than that of the general student population.
If boorish behavior by athletes were a crime in and of itself, there wouldn't be a single team out of jail in this country. But just because these guys are jerks doesn't make them rapists.
