The victim, a single mom who turned to exotic dancing to support her two kids, attends North Carolina Central University, a mostly black college in Durham.
She plans to keep a low profile until the students go on trial to avoid inflaming tensions in the black community, where opinion is running heavily against the privileged students.
One of the most hurtful things for the woman about the media circus surrounding the case, the cousin said, is the tendency to assume the worst about her because she is a stripper.
"She's a victim and she's a human being," the cousin said. "Her occupation couldn't justify that a crime like this was committed."

There's absolutely no evidence these kids would want any 'mementos' from either of these two women.
If the DA is in that mindset, we have a problem. A serious problem.
If one of the ladies on the thread can identify where to buy a shoe like that I'd be happy to chip in to buy a pair for Nifong to have for his very own. Anyone know his shoe size?
NBC17.com needs their eyes checked. LOL
I meant as she was coming down the stairs, wearing one white shoe (12:30)--there is someething white against her body--I thought that was the other shoe.
Howlin is right - the DA is truly that dumb.
The stripper's case is falling apart at a rapid rate. Nifong would have a better case against Ted Kennedy doing the deed at that house right now....
I wanna know what Kim was supposedly doing those 20 mins Crystal was in the bathroom 'getting raped'.....knitting a sweater.....tuning her car up....what?????
Look directly below the shoe. It looks as if the image is cropped and just directly below the show looks as if it could be what's left of the stripper's body after the cropping. IMO, of course.
I didn't do any of that.
Ya ever spent time talking to the hundreds of thousands of men
I don't talk to many men, but I read. Some get really raked over the coals. My son got burned pretty bad. I'm not that kind of a person even if I have been ill-treated. I don't get even either although I could if I chose to about some things. I stick up for them, too. Very few have ever stuck up for me.
We each have our crosses to bear.
Didn't say we didn't. My life is pretty much over. I'm thinking of younger people struggling with some of this. I do tend to stick up for the underdog; maybe they don't deserve it. I don't know. Some people do deserve a helping hand. Some people need tough love. It's hard to know sometimes.
What's your point?
Only that jobs that paid pretty well with benefits that lower IQ people could do are mostly gone now where I live anyway. That was my only point.
"What if she isn't lying"
Too many damn coincidences. Just too many
You know what if I reported a serious crime (a real crime) to the Police and then lied about the amount of money stolen from me, lied about calling 911, lied about how the rape happened, and I complained about being called terrible names when I was using similar types of names in the exchange - I wouldn't expect to be believed by a DA or a Jury.
Simple as that.
LOL! Right you are, OO.
For someone so damned concerned with morality, I find your statement insinuating who lied not being important to be rather odd.
Close enough?
I have some interesting stories about Oral Roberts son, Richard. Hubby was in school at TU in Tulsa....bar called the Library..lol.
Kids from ORU would come across town to party hearty. Always afraid they'd be recognized....
The stories may vary some but I don't think anyone will tell that to the DA, Peach.
I think the AV showed up completely out of it, went into the bathroom to get ready to dance, lost four press-on nails, came out and attempted to perform, fell down and lost her shoe, end of dance and back into the bathroom.
OMG! You've managed to find the one pair of shoes even uglier than Mangum's. Er... how did you know where to find them? : )
I'm staying with Sissyjane
(on this thread)
That looks more like a tabletop to me, as long as we're guessing. :-)
I don't think the DA told these guys to drink and hire strippers. It was their own poor judgment. Of course that doesn't mean any of them raped her - just that it is possible.
I would make an exception for her.
