The victim, a single mom who turned to exotic dancing to support her two kids, attends North Carolina Central University, a mostly black college in Durham.
She plans to keep a low profile until the students go on trial to avoid inflaming tensions in the black community, where opinion is running heavily against the privileged students.
One of the most hurtful things for the woman about the media circus surrounding the case, the cousin said, is the tendency to assume the worst about her because she is a stripper.
"She's a victim and she's a human being," the cousin said. "Her occupation couldn't justify that a crime like this was committed."

My sons are grown, one with a daughter that is graduating from college in a couple of weeks.
I doubt any of us think our kids are perfect. That was a mean thing to say.
No Susan was dead serious.
Guess it was a "formal" gang rape.
The POINT is---A "pure young man" as you put it can be falsely accused as well....and as far as I know there aren't any pure men or women for that matter.
Go back to sticking your head in the sand now.
Now you're putting words in my mouth that I didn't say. If that's how you have to make your point, it can't be a very good point.
Metrosexuals and feminazis do that a lot to get their bogus points across.
>>I'm so glad you think your kid is perfect. Catch up with us in 10 years.<<
Perfect!
She seems to know to go right to the Sheriff's office if she is not getting her way.
Has the DA looked in the trash can for that shoe...that's where I would have put it...
Of course anyone can accuse anyone of anything. I think our point is to not knowingly put yourself in a position where it is this easy.
I've heard one of the talking heads talking saying he had a client who was a minister and had false charges of rape made against them. I guess in the Holier than thou's world he MUST have done something wrong. Something.
And I'll bet most of the fathers are saying "There but the grace of God go I."
As are many of us. Including me.
And they waited 4 weeks to go looking for that shoe. That tells me a lot.
This is becoming a "Cinderella" story. LOL
Oh my--you're going to be called nasty. Just like me LOL!!
See post 520.
It was mean to say I'm glad she thinks her son is perfect? OMG. Your threshold is set a little lower than most people's.
1. An allegation of forcible rape and kidnap.
2. A denial of the allegation, and an assertion that the allegation is a lie, and that the lie may cause innocent people to spend time in prison.
Name calling in this situation does not rise to anywhere near the seriousness of what is happening. Sean should concentrate on justice, not name calling. And I wonder, did either stripper call the boys honkies or mother effers? Just curious.
You're right. My point was "criminal stupidity".
He could put it with Saddam's WMDs. It'll be there but never be be found and everyone will blame Bush.
Actually, he could have put it in any trash can along the street. How about in neighbor Bissey's trash? After carefully removing his finger prints of course. A.K.A. hide it in plain sight. Even if found, everyone would just assume it got picked up up in the yard and thrown away by someone/anyone.
Well, they just search Finnerty's dorm looking for his computer ... after he's charged, and left town.
What do they need the shoe for?
I'm on the players' side here as far as the rape charges. However, they displayed very poor judgment for Duke college guys. Hope they can get some of their tuition back because they obviously haven't learned much at Duke.
But I am at a loss for how people can defend underage guys drinking and hiring strippers. It's sad that our culture has sunk so low.
