Here's what's new in Firefox 1.5.0.2:
- Universal Binary support for Mac OS X which provides native support for Macintosh with Intel Core processors. Firefox supports the enhancements to performance introduced by the new MacIntel chipsets.
- Improvements to product stability.
- Several security fixes.
The Burning Edge has more detailed lists of notable bug fixes.

1.5.0.2? They're getting just a little carried away with their versioning!

1.5.0.2? They're getting just a little carried away with their versioning!Ya, it would seem so. It actually makes a little bit of sense if you know what the parts mean.
The 1.5 is a major version number. Extensions and Themes aren't guaranteed to function exactly alike between major versions.
The 0 is a minor version number. The Firefox team doesn't guarantee extension and theme compatability, but make every effort not to change any APIs in such a way that they would break.
The final ".2" indicates this is a stability/bugfix/security release. It shouldn't adversely affect any themes, extensions, or plugins.
There has been a bit of grumbling about the way they are doing versioning these days. It doesn't bother me any.

I won't bother, mine works fine. I'd wait for a major upgrade instead of some minor upgrade.

Yup. It's a bug/security fix.
If ya want new features, you'll have to go to a nightly build. I don't recommend it for the faint of heart though.

I hope this update process for 1.5.0.2 is indicative of the way it will be from now on.
This was the least painful update I've done to Firefox since I started using it at v0.8.
Lickety split with no errors or munged extensions.

Glad it is working better than it used to. I always download the whole package, to make it easy to update all my local PCs remotely. This also allows me to keep the old version in place so I can roll back if I ever want or need to for something. I'm a little paranoid sometimes :-)

The update deleted all my extensions so I had to reinstall them. No big deal since I only had three.

The only extension that quit working for me when I upgraded to 1.5.0.1 months ago was the bandwith tweaker extension. I found a newer and different one that works called FasterFox.

Yeah, I caught that problem. On the other hand, it kept my bookmarks and homepage this time, so it's improving rapidly.
I really like Firefox more and more as I get into playing with the extensions and add-ons out there.

My favorite extension is: NoScript, which blocks Java, and JavaScript from running on sites except the ones you specify. Saves time and trouble, not having to go to preferences to enable or disable JS when you need it, and when you don't.
And my update to 1.5.0.2 was really smooth. Automatic while I was FReeping.

I'm a little paranoid sometimes Yeah, me too. I've gotten burned a couple of times on major release upgrades...mainly with extensions and themes, so I made a little backup and restore script that I run after each browsing session.
Though, I will say that I've discovered the reason for the problem with extensions and themes not installing on major releases...the minimum version parameter in the .rdf file for an extension.
Change that to reflect the new version number and it will install easily. Possible compatibility issues notwithstanding. =;^)
