A Boulder woman was out of jail Thursday, after being locked up over the weekend for installing a new garage door.
The Boulder Daily Camera reported in its Thursday editions that Megan Forbes was arrested and taken to jail on Sunday for failing to show up on a court summons she received for replacing her original garage door with a new one.
The problem, the newspaper reported, was that Forbes' home is in the history Mapleton Hill area and replacing the original garage door on her 106-year-old home required a Landmark Alteration Certificate from the city -- something she didn't obtain.
Forbes was getting ready for church Sunday when a Boulder police officer knocked on her door, arrested her, and took her to jail.
The 26-year-old woman is working with a subcommittee of the city's Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board to bring her garage door into compliance.
Now that's a powerful Home Owner's Association.
Only in Boulder would this ridiculous stuff happen. Boulder cops are glorified campus police.
I wonder why she didn't show up for the original court summons.
The what?
I would rather contribute financially to this woman's legal expenses to get rid of the Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board...
Funny We are willing to "negotiate" endlessly with nutjobs worldwide who tell us they want to kill us, but arrest immediately a citizen violating a "consmetic ordinance"...
Our world has gone mad.
Buying a house that's an "Historic Landmark" essentially binds you to a Homeowners' Association with the charm and efficiency of the DMV.
She should have had an "illegal immigrant" do it, then HE would have gotten arrested. Maybe?
If the local residents of that area decide they don't want the restrictions the board is imposing, then getting rid of it would certainly make sense.
If, on the other hand, they want to continue the historical preservation of that area, what justifies an outsider to campaign to override their wishes?

I'll bet it happens in a lot more places than Boulder.
Watch "This Old House" on Saturdays on PBS. People living in Boston have to jump through so many hoops to remodel their houses it's almost funny to watch.
Grammar. It good idea.
That's what my Grammer told me
No matter how much they holler about it, there's nothing "historic" about the buildings in Boulder.
If I was wealthy and owned that home, I do believe I would have to light a match.
..wouldn't want to live there...at all.

The insanity continues unabated.
