LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Two months after she caused a stir by driving a car while holding her infant son in her lap, pop star Britney Spears received an unexplained house call from child welfare authorities.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said on Tuesday deputies accompanied workers from the county's Department of Children and Family Services on a Saturday visit to Spears' home in the beachfront enclave of Malibu.
The spokesman, Sgt. Ken Cheurn, declined to discuss what prompted the DCFS house call, saying, "It was their investigation." But he said the matter was settled at the time of the visit and called the incident "a big nothing."
In February, photographs of Spears driving a car with her then-five-month old son, Sean, on her lap behind the wheel ignited a media uproar and led sheriff's deputies to visit Spears' home at the request of county child welfare agents.
Spears later issued a statement saying she had "made a mistake" when she pulled her sport utility vehicle out of the parking lot of a coffee shop without first strapping her son into his car seat, a violation of motor safety laws.
The singer said then that she was reacting to a "frightful" encounter with "physically aggressive" paparazzi, although the photo agency that took the pictures has denied Spears' claim that photographers were hounding her.

BRITNEY TOT CRACKS HIS SKULL
EXCLUSIVE Singer and hubby quizzed over baby's injury
By Ryan Parry, Us Correspondent
BRITNEY Spears and her husband are being quizzed after their baby son suffered a suspected fractured skull.
Six-month-old Sean smashed his head falling to the ground from his high chair. His injury emerged when Britney, 24, took him to a doctor six days later after he became groggy and tearful.
Suspicious medical officials filed a complaint to the Los Angeles child welfare department and the couple were questioned by investigators who were escorted by police.
Britney and husband Kevin Federline, 28, have been accused of poor parenting before. If found guilty of ill treatment or neglect they could receive a warning - or even lose their baby.
Wasn't her 15 minutes of fame due to end about 5 years ago? When will she go away.
Crime of the century...
Interesting that she eschews chauffers.
Sorry, now we know.
I guess the child is already doomed. How many tales of nogoodniks include the statement that he was "dropped on his head as a child"? I recall reading an article about people who suffered frontal lobe injuries this way growing up without any self-control.
I'm not a fan of her music, but remember that she was one of the few celebrities to stand up for President Bush. The MSM might be spinning this to put her in the worst possible light.
The second visit from Family Services? What's the white trash record?
Of course, you or I would have already lost our kids to CPS if this happened.
