One thing you can do that's done all the time: Use the original intact title but append additional info (space permitting) on the end of the title. For instance:
DNA Results Could Shed New Light On Duke Lacrosse Investigation (BIG DEVELOPMENT!)
And if you need to have a title or anything else corrected, you can always ping "Admin Moderator" and he/she will fix it for you. :)
