I was having lunch with a goddess - Jessica Lange - one of America's greatest, most intelligent, distinguished and beautiful actresses. Lange has won two Oscars ( for "Blue Sky" and "Tootsie") and every other kind of nomination under the sun, and she is to be honored on April 17 by the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
Jessica is a mature woman, still gorgeous in her prime, laughing about how Hollywood flashes a distinct lack of interest in actresses over 35. When I told her that her Academy Award-winning performance in "Tootsie" is one of my all-time favorites, she seemed amazed. "You know, I never realized it could have such an effect. I made that picture thinking I was just 'the girl' in the movie!" (Somehow Ms. Lange has never been "just the girl" in movies, though she did sit in King Kong's hand in the 1976 remake.)
Jessica is the mother of several almost grown-up children and still very much "with" her very own "cowboy" - the gifted writer/actor Sam Shepard. She has been living in New York for the last two years and says, "I am just thrilled to be back in the city!" She is looking forward to her big night because the F.S. of L.C. is a grand organization, having begun in 1972 by saluting none other than Charlie Chaplin. For her own event, I'm told those honoring Jessica will include Sydney Pollack, David Strathairn, Jeff Bridges, Ann Roth and, of course, Sam Shepard. "He could hardly say no!" giggles Jessica of her life companion who comes and goes from his ranch in Kentucky.
Ms. Lange has a movie called "Bonneville" coming in the fall, with Kathy Bates and Joan Allen as her girlfriends, all taking a life-changing road trip.

At 35 you get the face that make-up gives you.
At 50 you get the face that you (& your life) gave you."
Any surprise that liberal women don't tend to age well?
Right on. I thought she was the loveliest woman in the world in Tootsie. Now she looks like h-ll. Unlike other women like Susan Sarandon, who look as lovely in their mid-50s as ever.
Of course, I can't stand either actress' politics, but when all you're doing is looking, who cares?

Somebody wants to pay you thousands of dollars to move parts of their face around, are you really going to try to talk them out of it?
You own a business that kills babies, are you goint counsel against it?

For over half a century, news organizations have been partison and lying, are they going to change now?
Sarandon is lovely. It's a shame she is on the wrong side.

I watch OReilly almost every night, but somehow I missed that one - Drat!
if a woman insists on the full-face stretch job, she WILL find a surgeon willing to do it.
But the really good plastic surgeons (one lives next door to my folks) don't do the whole face deal . . . basically if you're smart, you'll get the eye job (lids, wrinkles at the corners) and maybe a little revision around the chin (for the "wattle"). That's IT.
Then you look your age, but SPLENDID for your age - which is the best that you can realistically hope for.
My mom had this work done about 15 years ago. She's now 80 and looks great - for an 80 year old lady. If you saw her, you'd probably guess that she was 60-65.
Have you seen Farrah Fawcett lately? She totally destroyed her face with plastic surgery. She would have been a lovely older woman if she had just let herself age gracefully. Now it's just really sad to look at her.
Exactly! They always screw it up because they go overboard! It just kills me when they mess with their nose because they don't like that the tip is getting bigger as they age. Half the time they end up with one nostril higher than the other. And when they get the fat pads taken out of their cheeks it might look okay when they first get it done, but if they lose any weight at all they end up with caved in cheeks and it looks ghastly!

Guess what I'll never understand is why anyone would think that going to such as extreme is a good thing!!
I always think of Katherine Hepburn - now she aged beautifully!!

Eventually people are going to realize that the gracefully aging woman down the street looks a heck of a lot better than the "Hollywood Stars".
Audrey Hepburn was one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood. She never had plastic surgery, but she was lovely until the day she died -- wrinkles and all.
Same here. She did a terrific acting job. I love just about anything Tommy Lee Jones is in. Blue Sky is one of my faves.
Actually, I may be just a tad bit jealous of Jessica. She 'got' Sam Shepard. Dayum. :o)
If you ever unhook her bra....watch your feet!
I didn't think it was possible, but the face lifts in Hollywood are getting worse and worse. Just look at Marie Osmond. And what's with people getting them who don't need them? Bruce Jenner was one of the sexiest men in sports, but now he's got the profile of Diana Ross.
