Time and sequence of numbers on April 5 (an oddity vanity for the numerically touched)
a friend | 4/3/06 | Knitting a Conumdrum

Someone brought this to my attention:

On Wednesday, APRIL 5th, at two minutes and three seconds after one, the time and date will be:

01:02:03 04/05/06

just something to while the time away with if you like number sequencing.

Not earthshattering, but a curio.

1-2
buckle my shoe.
3-4
Shut the door.
5-6
pick up sticks.
7-8
lay them straight.
9-10
a big fat hen.

1-2-3-4-5-6-7
All good children go to heaven.

(I used to be friends with a woman who did academic work on counting jingles and jump rope songs. It scrambled something in my head, perhaps.)

Hey, you can't say that rhyme in school anymore; most children's book print it as "9-10, a great kind hen".
Don't get me started on the Heaven reference. :-)

My mama told me
if I was goody
that she would buy me
a rubber dolly.

My auntie told her
I kissed a soldier.
now she won't buy me
that rubber dolly.

(retreat into childhood?)

Geez. I've not heard that little ditty for many, many years. Used to say it often.

I've always liked jingles and rhymes.

This is one for counting crows (what the number you see is supposed to mean0

One for sorrow, two for mirth,
Three for a wedding, four for a birth,
Five for silver, six for gold,
Seven for a secret not to be told.
Eight for heaven, nine for hell,
And ten for the devil's own sel'.

or

One for sorrow,
two for joy,
three for a girl,
for for a boy,
five for silver,
six for gold,
seven for a secret,
never to be told,
eight for a wish,
nine for a kiss,
ten for a time
of joyous bliss.

Thank you, these are great. I've not heard or read them before. I'll have to memorize them.

Haven't counted crows too often though. LOL.

This has sent me digging for jumprope rhymes.

Here's a group of counting ones.

COUNTING
How many times can you jump without missing?

Chickety, chickety, chop.
How many times before I stop?

Candy candy in the dish.
How many pieces do you wish?

My mother made a chocolate cake.
How many eggs did it take?

My little sister dressed in pink
Washed all the dishes in the sink.
How many dishes did she break?

Here comes teacher with a great big stick.
I wonder what I got in arithmetic.

Here comes teacher yelling.
Wonder what I got in spelling.

Cinderella dressed in yellow
Went downstairs to kiss her fellow.
How many kisses did she give?

Cinderella dressed in lace
Went upstairs to powder her face.
How many puffs did she use?

Cinderella dressed in red
Went downstairs to bake some bread.
How many loaves did she bake?

Cinderella dressed in green
Went upstairs to eat ice cream.
How many spoonfuls did she eat?

Cinderella dressed in blue
Went outside to tie her shoe.
How many seconds did it take?

Cinderella dressed in yella
Went downstairs to kiss a fella
Made a mistake and kissed a snake
How many doctors did it take?

Mother, Mother I am sick.
Call for the doctor quick, quick, quick.
Doctor, doctor will I die?
Yes, my dear and so will I.
How many years will I live to be?

Down in the valley where the green grass grows.
There sat (name) sweet as a rose.
She sang, she sang, she sang so sweet.
Along came (name) and kissed her on the cheek.
How many kisses did he give her?

Down by the river, down by the sea.
I went fishing, my daddy and me.
How many fishes did I get?

Apartment for rent - - inquire within.
How many people will move in ?
one - two - three - four - five -
(Count as each jumper comes in, till someone misses)
