The song slams US President George W Bush and his administration and features Elvis Costello wailing an expletive at the end...

This is an April Fool's joke. Burt Bacharach would not publish the "Theme From M*A*S*H" under it's original title "Suicide Is Painless".

More washed up has been artists with a Liberal chip on their shoulders. They can screw off, or ummm... did they just do that to themselves and their record sales? The Dixie Pr$^^%^cks disease strikes again.
Bacharach insists the reason the second version is coming out now is that "things have gotten worse, with more lies, even in the last few weeks. People think we're doing it for sensationalism. No. I don't like to offend. My nature is to try to please everybody," says the septuagenarian music man, who reminds that all through the Vietnam War, he was writing love songs. "What's going on now caught me. I felt I had to say something."

I could post some really crappy stuff about him, but why bother. I never liked him or his music, but I liked his father, Burt Senior, and on one particular August day in Del Mar, I liked his race horse, Nikki's Promise.
Stunningly simplistic lyrics. There is no artistic value here, just the scribblings of another fool.
