In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
esculent \ESS-kyuh-lunt\ adjective
: edible
Example sentence:
Sonia is a chef at The Wild Asparagus, a top-notch restaurant whose claim to fame is that every dish on the menu features an esculent native plant.
Etymology:
One appealing thing about "esculent" is that this word, which comes from the Latin for food ("esca"), has been around for 375 years. If we give you just one more tidbit of etymologythat "esca" is from Latin "edere," which means "to eat"can you pick which of the following words is NOT related to "esculent"?
comestible edacious edible escalade escarole obese
"Comestible" (meaning "edible"), "edacious" (meaning "voracious"), "edible," "escarole" (a type of salad green), and "obese" are all descendants of "edere." Only "escalade" (meaning "an act of scaling walls") doesn't belong on the list. It descends from the Italian "scalare," meaning "to scale." Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Nope. You're confusing the socialist, Cynthia McKinney, with the socialist, Sheila Jackson-Lee...although admittedly there is hardly any difference or distinction between the two of them.
BTW, Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX18) ranks 435th among House members for constituent services. [For those with post-1979 publick edukashuns - this means she is DEAD LAST.]

Grimmy, DogGone - we just got back from a new brewery nearby - had a beer sampler for lunch. I think they offer food too! lol
They brought out these little 2 inch high classes with various types of their brew...even tried a cider that was incredible.

Psycho Dog aka Thena, found the popcorn chicken that I was using to tempt her appetite esculent.
Ok, it's not news news, but it was good news to me. Psycho underwent surgery on Tuesday to remove the ball end of her thigh bone. That joint is no longer a ball and socket joint, it's a sliding joint. (She nods knowledgeably.)
Dog has hip displaysia (sp) in both hips.
She's not a happy camper and at the moment, ensconced on the bed trying not to move. Thus I am working from home this afternoon to try and keep her movements to a minimum.
