Married man is suing for date
EHARMONY REFUSES HIM UNTIL DIVORCE
Mercury News
John Claassen wants a date so badly he's suing for one.
He's taking eHarmony.com to court, because the popular online matchmaker refused to find him the perfect mate.
Why? Because he is married.
Technically, Claassen says, he is legally separated. But that's not good enough for eHarmony, which says it is in the business of matching singles ``free of relationship commitments.'' That puts him in cyber-dating limbo.
``Most people don't file a suit to get a date,'' Claassen said Friday after filing a civil rights suit last week in Alameda County Superior Court. ``If I had my druthers, I'd be divorced by now. I'm emotionally in a different state than I am legally,'' the 36-year-old Emeryville lawyer said.
Claassen alleges eHarmony is discriminating against him on the basis of his marital status. He and his wife of eight years separated last May, and he expects the divorce to be final within two months. When he reached marital status on eHarmony's online compatibility profile, he responded truthfully: ``legally separated.''
But eHarmony says its policy is clear: No marrieds need apply.
Citing California civil code, section 51, Claassen alleges eHarmony, based in Pasadena, is breaking state law because it is denying him access to its matching service based on marital status. He seeks $12,000 in civil penalties.

Ah THERE'S the problem!!!
he should try match.com
apparently about a huge percentage of men on that site are still actually married. pending divorce would be a step up!
Sounds good to me.
I almost missed my wife and soulmate, 'cause I THOUGHT she was married (she was recently divorced).
Not Shakespeare, but Richard III - who was, technically, a villian. (In Shakespeare, not history...)
I know a few guys who log on to sites like that... Makes me sick to know they do this and are still married... and I mean very married...
whoa ... that is an interesting article. Right now we are working with the singles PING list & not using it for anything other than the official weekend ping.. but I think you gave me an idea.
Will post that we will have a "second" list.. of general interest for singles. .. that all can ping to.. Peole can let us know if they want this type of info. A lot of folks get very upset when they are pinged to more than they "agreed to" so we are trying to be sensitive to it. I wil ping the poster/host though
I will make sure I put this thread as a special note in this weekend's thread. thanks for head's up!!!
a real "situation" isn't it?
Singles Thread Host Ping.. thanks to Lucy for heads up.
Same damn thing happened to me. A big freaking waste of time IMHO.
He can't wait two months?
How would he ever know?
Maybe he's completely helpless without a woman.
Internet dating sites don't work very well in my experience.
This is my observation at the singles dances also..
LOTS of game playing & misrepresentation
interesting tag line hon!
hugs
I haven't tried the dating sites, but I've had friends who have had really bad experiences resulting from internet dating sites.
My favorite story was from a friend who was matched with a guy who was twice her age (he failed to mention that the kids in his pictures were his grandchildren), and who showed up to the date in a flowered shirt unbuttoned down to his stomach.
Thanks! ;-)
And hugs back!
Oh that's horrible!
Actually, I know a few couples that have met online. But I also know many singles that have similar stories to yours.
LOL!!
