You are right that most of what Bocelli sings are standards. You can hear the same love songs on the old Lawrence Welk shows on PBS. They are beautiful songs, and I hope all the contestants choose well. Many of those I listed above were pop songs, in English, back in the forties and fifties.
Elliott should sing "Amapola." It's a great song, and it was #1 on the Hit Parade back when Helen O'Connell sang it.
Another good one for one of the guys is "Besame Mucho." I think Chris would drive all his female fans crazy with tthat one...
"Besame, besame mucho--kiss me my darling and say that you'll always be mine."

I bet Elliott's mom knows all Helen's songs. She was with the Jimmy Dorsey orchestra, and did great duets with Bob Eberly.
Anyway, Amapola is on Bocelli's latest album.
