That dress shows that she wasn't mothered, unless by someone who was selling her to the highest bidder. No woman who gave a damn about that girl would've let her go to the prom in that thing.

Believe it or not, grania, that dress is actually modest by today's standards. Actresses show up to awards shows, premiers and parties wearing extremely revealing stuff, and young girls see coverage of such events on TV and in teen mags. The fashion world is besotted with trash. Here's just a few examples:

This photo is from a fashion show during the young designers contest held at the 14th China International Fashion Week in Beijing, China, on Sunday March 26, 2006. One hundred and twenty fashion designers from 24 countries participated.

These are from Portuguese designer Fatima Lopes during the Portugal Fashion Week, in Porto, northern Portugal, Saturday March 25, 2006.

This is from Colombian fashion designer Maria del Pilar Agamez during Plataforma K fashion week in Barranquilla, Colombia, Saturday, March 25, 2006.

This is from Lebanese designer Nadine Mezher during Beirut Fashion Week at the Buddha-Bar, in Beirut, Lebanon, Saturday, March 25, 2006. (Apparently not all Muslims want their women in burkas.)

This model is getting her hair and makeup done before a fashion show in Culver City, California, March 23, 2006. I'm just throwing this photo in (a) because of the dog, and (b) because it's from California. Also, as fashion models go these days, this one is a beauty.

It supports my contention, that no mother was watching what Kellie was choosing for the prom. Look at her hair; obviously not a hairdresser involved.

As far as current styles and societal values go, I've been known to quip that Afghanistan could make a fortune....just open schools for girls where US parents could lock their girls up, in burkhas, until the girls are old enough to develop their own values!
