If the public rejects you, it must make it that much harder to get producers to accept you after you leave the show....
I really hadn't thought about that. :(
True, true, and true.
Remember we heard early on from one of our sources that some of the parents were giving the judges and everyone else a hard time? I was sure it wasn't Lisa's parents, and most likely not the Covaises or Ann Nesby.
Look for Katharine to go home this week. She's just not that good. Especially for someone who graduated from the Boston Conservatory!
I hate the way Taylor has been treated. I am voting for him this week, regardless of his performance, just on general principles.
Great song choice for Elliott! I hope he really jazzes it up.
Seeing those dates make me feel really old... Paris was born one year before I was married!! (August, 19,1989) My birthday is September 20, 1969.
I totally agree with you on the assessment of the voices.
Bocelli said of Paris, "She has a marvelous instrument."
One of the judges said to Elliott "Best male vocals."
Katherine's voice is weak in the higher registers and thin in the lower. She is all voice-school showiness, and very short on substance. Having her boobs flailing about and revealing her thong are mere diversions to distract us from the insufficiencies of the voice. She comes across as a slightly higher-end Monica Lewinsky.
Don't forget "Crazy Little Thing Called Love", which gets overlooked because of the presentation. The quality of his voice was superb. He consistently ranges high, and maintains that soulful edge.
I think it was one of his best outings.
That was an actual newspaper survey on the sidebar, they said.
Looks to be a major chick song but in many ways that's kind of where his audience is.
For Chris, the entries are quite sparse and extremely amusing. "We wrapped a hot towel around his head before the show" or something like that.
I agree with you on Taylor. I'd love to see him (or Elliott) win this thing.
I say "Rock on Soul Patrol!"
But I thought Katarine's performance last week was excellent!
On the 3 chicks of the top 6, my take is this:
Katharine - I think she has the best voice of the girls and the most appeal due to her good looks and "assets."
She DOES have an advantage of all the training, but I think most people who don't like her fall into 2 categories:
Females - Pretty much jealous of her.
Males - Guys who were rejected by girls like her in school and are taking that out on her.
Paris - Seems like she feels like she "deserves to win." Her nasty comment about "...well this is the first time that I've been in the bottom 2" really pissed me off.
I really like her singing of the "standards" but when she does Queen or Beyonce it's like fingernails on the chalkboard.
Kellie - I believe she's a sweet, down to earth, small town girl who did the best she could with basically no vocal training. She's been trashed by many people who think her "dumb blonde" persona is all an act. Like the female vocal coach of AI said in a recent interview, "With Kellie, what you see is what you get!" Sure, she was no Martina McBride or Leann Rimes, but she had a nice voice and was "fun" to watch. I didn't think she'd win, but I'll miss her this week.
Why do you think her comment was nasty? She was laughing and giggling when she said it. She was joking around. That said, I'm not impressed with either of the women.
American Idol: American Idol Producers: Keep it Real!
http://mediafiends.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=7459&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0
Recently, there's been a lot of buzz about the manipulation on Idol. Last week there was a report on Scarborough Country about how the FCC considers it an Entertainment show, not a contest, and therefore can't and won't investigate it. The report stated bluntly that anyone who doesn't understand that the show is rigged by the producers to get their desired result is simply being naive.
That report has come at a critical time. To me it has seemed that this season in particular the manipulations have been obvious. It is clear that the producers have picked which contestants they wanted in the final showdown and everything from staging, judges' comments, song choices, performance order and yes, even votes, have been tweaked to get that desired result.
As one example, Taylor Hicks has always shown himself to be a very sweet and humble guy, perfectly joyous to be on the show. But in the past few weeks a lot of information has come out about how Taylor is having his song choices pulled for lame reasons and inappropriate songs foisted upon him. Why? One can only assume that Taylor is not the Chosen One by the powers that be. His spirit is noticable being crushed and AI comes off as a schoolyard bully. Entertaining? Not.
As an Idol watcher since season 2, I can only express my plea to the Powers that Be that they reconsider their strategy. The show at its face value is a great concept -- find raw, undiscovered talent and slowly groom it and watch it grow. Each week, America votes and the least favorite goes home. In the end, the last one standing has truly won over America.
What would be so bad about letting this ACTUALLY be the way it works? About letting each contestant do their OWN thing (less Theme weeks, please) and shine to the best of his or her ability? I realize the show is #1 and some might say not to fix something that isn't broken. However, I really believe that its success is due to the fact that America BELEIVES the show is real. You take away that good faith, and the magic is utterly gone.
As a result of having all of this made more evident to me, last week I found myself listening to the judges and even Ryan's remarks on results night with a huge sense of doubt. Was Simon's apology to Kat real or was it just another manipulation? When Ryan announced the top vote-getters was he telling the truth or wording things in a subtly mis-leading way to create drama?
I never doubted the show like that before and, frankly, I don't like it. The show works only if we trust that Ryan, Simon, Paula and Randy are being honest, even if we don't agree with them. If you can't believe that the judges comments are not scripted to slam or promote one contestant or another, the show is pretty much over.
American Idol, keep it real! Let the show be what it is at face value! Please support each contestant to do their best, stay true to their own style and let AMERICA decide.
I'm a Kat Man, but to be fair, both of the remaining women were completely talent-show groomed. That doesn't mean they shouldn't win, or aren't talented, it just is what it is.
On the guys side, both Taylor and Daughtry are professional or semi-professional musicians. Taylor is a fixture on the gator circuit, and Daughtry does NASCAR bars when he isn't manning the service desk at some autorama off the interstate.
The only contestant who didn't come to this place in time with some measure of pre-ordainment is Elliot. Health issues aside, he doesn't even have a regular gig somewhere on the weekends to work out his chops. Yet for whatever reason, he is blessed with an instrument that would make Paul Rodgers proud.
Elliot deserves the title and the big break that presumably accompanies it. Whether he gets it or not, I'll buy his records and support his career anyway I can.
Copy the following URL to your address bar and hit Go (or enter on your keyboard). It will bring you to a video (which will start automatically) of McPhee's performance last week. Listen again to her singing -- you can play it over as many times as you wish. If you don't hear her lack of power, shortness of breath, sharp notes, and even some flat notes in her lower register, I'd be surprised.
There have been a number of female singers who lost AI, but who could sing rings around McPhee without even half trying. If McPhee wins, she will be the weakest winner yet.
If, as guys, you have trouble looking past her pretty face and other assets, then try listening to it without looking at the vid.

Bocelli did, and still liked her.
And her shortness of breath only makes her hotter.
That's insulting.
When Idol is on, I can barely watch it--I'm listening to the show as I type posts to you.
Do I think McPhee is attractive? Sure I do and I don't apologize for it.
Do I think she's the best singer or that she'll win? No and no.
I know I'm just a guy, but I am able to separate looks from talent.
Give me some credit.
