Excuse my ignorance,,,,what is "19E"?

The record company that the producers of American Idol are affiliated with.

They fund, promote and market the winner's record(s).

Simon's brother has a book coming out, or maybe it already did and these quotes are from that.

How much voting time does the public get?

Two hours, I believe, same as AI.

I really think AI should do the same thing regarding original songs.

I have mixed feelings about this. These days singers often "write" their own songs. In reality, what they do is collaborate with songwriters, and put their name on as co-songwriter because it's an extra revenue stream. The songwriters like this approach because, if they are working with an established singer, they are guaranteed to get their work published and recorded. But few singers are also really first rate solo songwriters.

Do you know what kind of viewership numbers NS has?

I don't, but it is WAY less than AI. NS is on cable, not a broadcast network like AI. Cable rarely gets the ratings of the broadcast networks, and when it does, it's usually only for big breaking news stories. NS is on the USA Network.

Then I guess the rason they don't pick potential big stars is because they have such low viewership. The numbers just aren't there to give them a really good indication of who has the best potential. With only a sliver voting, you get that sliver's opinion, but it may not be the best opinion! lol

The writing part would just be another facet. It could come into play in the event of having two equally talented singers, the ability to write might help that person to squeek by.

Brilliant, Netizen. I mean it -- not joking. I think you're right. Not only that, but you've stated in very clear terms why we should never trust polls of any kind. Again, I'm serious.

My suggestions--some classics, some just songs that should be better known than they are.

Paris is more difficult than I would have thought. I keep returning to Dinah Washington for her. Paris could do "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" in a similar manner to Dinah. Or "All of Me", again reminiscent of Dinah.

Katharine should sing Sting's "Fields of Gold" the way Eva Cassidy sang it. Think she'd kill with that if she didn't oversing it.

Easy, hooky, obscure, country song with some bounce for Kellie: "Somewhere, Some Night" by Laura Cantrell(written by Carl Montgomery).

Another obscure song for Chris: "Green Eyes" by Kate Wolf. Think he could make that one smoke.

I'd like to see Elliott do something bold and unexpected like sing "Lark in the Clear Air" acapella. If he plays it safe he should sing something melodic rather than funky; he'd do well with just about any of the standards.

The wryness of Graham Parker's "Long Stem Rose" would work well for Taylor, another fairly obscure song but a pretty one. Parker doesn't strike me as someone who would allow his music to be performed on AI though.

Thanks, but its just common sense and I don't know why NS hasn't figured that out. They need to get their viewership up. That will also give their potential stars more exposure before they hit recording studios. I this really helped Kelly, Clay, Carrie and the others to varying degrees.

Do they get guest stars as well?

You know, the more I think about it, the more I think Dolly Parton or some other big name ought to look into getting that show off of cable and onto regular tv.

Did Garth Brooks retire and if so, do you know why? Maybe he could get that show back on track. They could easily have a successful show, if they just make a few changes. jmo

You're absolutely, 100% right about those polls, too!

If Pickler wins this year, I will know the show is totally bogus and fixed

Does it ever occur to all you Pickle Haters that Kellie is doing so well because viewers enjoy her and vote for her? At my house, we've been voting for her every week since the beginning. And now that Bucky is gone, she's getting all our votes. It isn't a conspiracy, we just love her.

PS: If they get NS off cable and onto regular tv, they need to get it on FOX. If it winds up on another network it could potentially run opposite AI and that would be disatrous to both shows. Splitting their viewership could ruin both by lowering the viewerships to the point that they don't get enough to get good indicators again.

shoot, if FOX put NS on M/T and AI on W/Th, they'd about kill the other networks! lol

I have to confess, I like Kellie's style too. Rod Stewart said it right, she's a 'firecracker' but that said I think Katharine will win in the end

It's about time a Pickler voter STOOD UP !!! Good for you.

I adore Kelli (but you all knew that already) as someone who has that one skill that can be life-changing....the ability to make people smile, and seems really appreciative about this opportunity.

She has a nice voice to listen to, but not the training of the others. I hope she develops that skill a little more, but whatever happens, I'm sure we'll be seeing her in situation comedy.

FWIW, my choices are in order Taylor, Eliot, Kelli, Paris. After that, I'm not voting.

You keep defending Kelli, and don't let anyone tell you who you should like.

Ace Young Would Step In Front Of A Moving Train For Chris Daughtry

http://www.realitytvmagazine.com/blog/2006/04/ace_young_would.html

snip

Ryan Seacrest called Ace Young and Chris Daughtry the Matt Damon and Ben Affleck of this year’s American Idol, and Ace young elaborated on his relationship with Chris. Ace told reporters, “Chris and I, we have a lot in common and he’s a very good man. He’s what you want in a marriage as far as very direct and loyal guy. And Dianna is very lucky to have him and she knows that and she’s adorable. And he and I really clicked. We clicked from the beginning just because we kind of have the same upbringing. We’re big on family; we’re big on people. And he, just like me, can’t wait to get to the fan base. I mean, I can’t wait to shake hands with my fans and give them hugs and say thank you for getting me to number seven. But any day of the week I’d step in front of a moving train for that guy.”

In addition to family and friends, Ace Young also had glowing words of praise for his fan base, The High Rollers. Ace expressed his appreciation for a generous charitable gift, saying “The High Rollers did something really amazing. They raised $2000 for me last week and they donated it to the Denver Children’s Hospital in my name so that they could put that towards whatever they felt necessary. And it’s just amazing that they know me; they know that I go there every year for Christmas and I don’t even ask for presents on Christmas because after I’m done singing there for five or seven hours, whatever it is, room to room, I’m good to go.”

Their whole production values suck. They have better talent than AI, but the show is almost unwatchable. The set is dark, kind of like a honky tonk, the judges are crass and crude (lot's of "kick @ss" and other crap), boring hosts, etc. Without a DVR I couldn't watch it.

Do they get guest stars as well?

Yes, they have a guest star that sings. Usually someone currently on the charts. But they don't work with the contestants like AI does.

They need a lot more than a Dolly Parton or a Garth Brooks. They need to totally revamp the show - sets, hosts, judges, elimination process, etc.

Is it because you feel that she is a really good singer and consistanly outdoes everyone else on the show?

That's what I meant by some changes. It really wouldn't take that much. I figure Dolly is probably busy, unless she could fit into Dollywood somehow. ;)

Lighten the set up, get a better class of judges and maybe use idols elimination process. It's worked for them fairly well.

I'm not sure. I just remember that horrible song he had out last year...."I play chicken with the train play chicken with the train train, uh huh huh uh huh huh"!
Great! Now those lyrics are stuck in my head!!
