Paris Bennett expects to be the next 'American Idol'

By Edith C. Webster
Rockford (Ill.) Register Star
3/26/06

tidbits from article...

Q: Did you ever get teased because of your speaking voice?

A: No, I never got teased for how I talk. That's what makes me unique. I'm little, and it goes with my height. My voice is a gift ... It's just like you see a candy bar, and you open up the package, and it doesn't look like the outside. The chocolate bar has peanuts and everything inside, but you don't see that on the outside.

Q: Why did you enter American Idol?

A: Yeah, my mom and my grandmother are in the music business, but this is something I wanted to do for myself and make my own name, so people could see that you don't always have to take the easy road. I like to be more competitive.

Q: You looked so genuinely surprised when they told you that you were advancing to the finals. Do you remember how you felt?

A: It's not every day that people get chosen to be in the top 24 when hundreds of thousands try out. It's a big blessing. I was very happy, very happy.

Q: Your mother (recording artist Jamecia Bennett) was there with you that night. What was her reaction?

A: Everything you saw on TV, that was reality - crying, that was her first instinct, but they weren't tears of sadness.

Q: Your mother and your grandmother (Grammy Award-winning artist Ann Nesby) are both performers. Have they given you any advice, or are they just letting you do your own thing?

A: Just to stay humble and just to be me ... just to keep God first, stay humble and have fun.

Q: On publicity for her album, Relationships Between God and Man, your mother speaks very openly about how difficult it was for her when she was pregnant with you. Does she ever talk to you about that?

A: Oh, yeah. My mom and I are just 16 years apart, so I've had my questions: Why so young? She's not afraid to talk about it, which is why I give her the most respect. Some parents are like it was a great idea, then you think it's the right thing to do. For me now, it makes me look at things on a lot more positive note, like, yes, people make mistakes, but look at where she is now. Now, she can look at me, and I don't have kids. If I did, I would tell her the same thing: Face up to the responsibility you have.

Q: Have you thought about what's next if you don't win American Idol?

A: I don't really have that thought in my head. My thought and my prayers are that this is my year, this is my season. I am the next American Idol. I don't really have negative thoughts.

Yes they are and they are not what he does on AI. He wrote all of the songs on the Under the Radar CD.

I sure have. He wrote that one in 1997 I believe. I read that they will rerelease that CD after AI. Those who have it say it's really good too. It's going for $400 on ebay right now.

This is him with dark hair and a beard. :: thud ::

Is Paula Abdul in trouble at work?
By Colin Mahan
March 27, 2006 at 03:35:00 PM

Reports surface that increasingly erratic American Idol judge is rubbing bosses the wrong way.

Last season, American Idol judge Paula Abdul weathered a high-profile sex scandal. This season, US Weekly reports that her increasingly bizarre comments and behavior on the show are putting her job in jeopardy again.

In early March, Abdul caused a ruckus when she bypassed airport security in Las Vegas. She snuck onto a flight without giving her boarding pass to the gate attendant, drawing a sharp admonishment from the Federal Transportation Safety Administration.

On March 3, Paula had to visit a doctor because she was dehydrated and exhausted. This came after weeks of Abdul exhibiting erratic behavior on the show, making esoteric comments to the contestants and laughing hysterically for no apparent reason.

Is there any rule that says the contestants cannot sing songs they wrote themselves? I would like to hear Taylor sing some of his own songs.

Simon was interviewed by Rita Cosby tonight. He and his producer have a new talent show starting soon, "America's Talent", and they are going to audition all kinds of entertainers, not just singers. I wonder how that will work out.

Simon said he is sticking by his predictions for the top three--Chris, Taylor, and Kellie. He said if it were up to him, Chris would be the new Idol, but he thinks the public is going to vote for Taylor.

I didn't see your posts before I wrote mine.

Clowns, jugglers, Indian rubber men, Chinese acrobats, ballet dancers, opera singers, dog acts--come one, come all. The Circus is about to begin!!

(Brings back memories of The Ed Sullivan Show. Where is Senor Wences when you really need him?)

Speaking of talent, have you seen jonny's latest montage on his homepage?

GREAT JOB Jonny!!!!!

You've depicted expressions I've never seen an artist capture of him before. This would make a beautiful poster.

I know that in season one they had to write their own songs as part of the competition. I have read that if he sings it for AI I think they will own it for life. I don't know if he wants to give up the rights to his music. It's selling like gangbusters right now. He did major in business and marketing when he was in school. From what I hear he's pretty business savvy.

As for the show Simon wants to do I think it's possibly a pretty good idea. Maybe it's like the X factor they had in England where anybody could audition.

Taylor has a huge fan base that is very organized. When he calls out Soul Patrol he's acknowledging his fans. He has the merchandising side of things down too. In fact on the AI forum they said that Not Fade Away is a song to the fans made popular by the Greatful Dead. I think the ex hippies dig him from what I have read.

Thanks for the info about Taylor. He seems like a very well-rounded person, and a lot smarter than he lets on.

I have to keep reminding myself not to judge these contestants solely by the way they appear on Tuesday evenings.
