Their is a country, rockabilly band who has played concerts in B'ham that are really good, called the Avett Brothers. I don't know how well known their music is or if you can sing unknowns but I really like their music.

I love Wilco. Didn't realize they were considered alternative country.

I thought that song might be good for Pickler. Sort of suits her. She might even pull it off.

It was written by David Allen Coe. The fact that a 13 year sang this song SHOCKED the country & it was quite the scandal...stations banned it.

The fact that a 13 year sang this song SHOCKED the country...

Living in the Los Angeles area sort of makes one immune to such shocks. In fact, I never even heard about it, which probably is a testament to L.A.'s blase attitude than to the newsworthiness of the story.

In what genre would "Georgia On My Mind" fall? Have you heard his version of that? Is he saving it for later?

I think he should do that song, too.

I'm not sure if Ray Charles' Music fits this theme.

I did a search on country blues and a page came up with several Ray Charles albums. Some of the albums bearing the words country western. I think it fits. Hate to have him save it for later then not get to use it for some reason.

It was the 70's....

I moved out here in 1976, but before that I lived in New York City, which is just as unshockable about such things as L.A.

Not sure about Parton. Dolly has a lot more range.

True, I was a young child in the 70's so I don't recall it either....but I did see a biography on Tanya Tucker. I don't recall her exact age when she sang that, but it was in her low teens & the country world was shocked.

It was a huge seller. We had the album. What do you think shocked the country world more, her singing that song at such a young age, or her running around with Glen Campbell when she did? Oy!
