T.O. woman, 29, facing charges in pit bull attack CTV.ca News
A 29-year-old Toronto woman appeared in court over the weekend to face charges under Ontario's new pit bull laws after her dog was allegedly involved in a vicious February attack.
It is alleged that the woman's pit bull attacked another dog and its owner on February 14, 2006.
The incident happened in the Danforth Road and Midland Avenue area after the accused allegedly was walking her dog without a leash or muzzle, a Toronto Police Service press release said Monday.
Contrary to the release, initial police statements in February suggested the woman did have her pit bull on a leash and muzzle but that the dog broke free from her.
At that time, police said the woman tried to subdue the pit bull but that during the struggle the dog's muzzle came off.

These are safe, peaceful dogs. These stories we hear about every few days are the exception, not the rule. (yeah, right)

I feel bad for the owner of the shih-tzu, having to watch his dog murdered.

I have no problems with properly-raised pit bulls with responsible owners. But the last time a stray pit bull came wandering up into my property, chasing around my geese, I didn't hesitate to shoot it. As far as dogs go, they are very easy to brutalize by sloppy or malicious owners. And sad to say, unlike other breeds of dog, they just don't get the benefit of the doubt when we cross paths. The guy who lived down the road from me (before he was incarcerated) used to breed them for dogfights. When abused, they become dangerous machines. That being said, responsible ownership is certainly possible. I just wish I saw it more often.

Yeah, that's gotta be pretty traumatizing. I see zero use or need for these pits (and a few others).

T.O. is Canadian shorthand for Toronto, Ontario.

Pit Bulls have the genes of the White Terrier, which were considered such a public health hazard in England in the 1800's, they were ordered to be rubbed out. Unfortunately, it lives on in Pit Bulls today.
Pit Bulls ought to be relegated to the zoo.
