In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
succor \SUH-kuhr\, noun:
1. Aid; help; assistance; especially, assistance that relieves and delivers from difficulty, want, or distress.
2. The person or thing that brings relief.
transitive verb:
1. To help or relieve when in difficulty, want, or distress; to assist and deliver from suffering; to relieve.
Example sentence:
There was some talk about the perils of the sea, and a landsman delivered himself of the customary nonsense about the poor mariner wandering in far oceans, tempest-tossed, pursued by dangers, every storm blast and thunderbolt in the home skies moving the friends by snug firesides to compassion for that poor mariner, and prayers for his succor.
-- Mark Twain, "Some Rambling Notes of an Idle Excursion," The Atlantic, November 1877
Etymology: Succor derives from Latin succurrere, "to run under, to run or hasten to the aid or assistance of someone," from sub-, "under" + currere, "to run."
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
A+ for the cranky goatherder. ;)
I'm not cranky, I'm Toby.
Apartment living is not for me! The sounds are different - this morning I woke up hearing a pinging sound - turned out it was lightly raining and that was the water coming down the gutter right beside the window, which is right beside the front door, which is right beside the kitchen and every other part of this tiny apartment! lol
Some mornings it is the lawn service or someone walking his dog - up close and personal is not the norm for me so I don't sleep as well here.
Now you see, here is another example of me being maligned - I've been napping and doing laundry yet my name is being dragged through the virtual mud.
Thanks for the warning - since I can get one drink down before everything begins to look fuzzy - not sure my one drink would even register as any blood alcohol level, but I'll be sure to keep my sleepy eyes open if ever in that situation!
You're welcome.
Tasty looking.
Big Dumb A$$hole?
What a dirty picture!
oh stop yourself - you know you've sent me worse (better)
Doing yardwork, covered with grass clipings and sweat can be extremely dirty, you are right. Smartazz
Whatever it means, it's probably better than TID.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm - freshly mowed yard - mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Curb appeal is important.
you'll never be able to curb my appeal for you, baby....
Got a thing for old ladies huh? Gotta tell you something funny - I'm in SnowBird land and yesterday I was walking to the car and the old guy a few doors down was walking just ahead of me. APPEARENTLY he didn't realize I was following behind him because he had an, uh, itch, and just reached around and went to town scratching. I had to stop walking and turn my head to keep from laughing out loud.
no way you are the NUMA NUMA guy! i love him.
Heya Tobe!
I've been playing over on the bibliophile thread. (rme)
I wonder if I need therapy?
LOL
really good GOD, if you are going to be indiscreet at least give us something JUICY!
dang i thought you were going to say that some old coot GOOSED ya!
