Coyote captured. New York City is safe lol.
Those coyotes, they're so wily...
Not quite sure. I would imagine the animal rightsers are already up in arms and getting ready to march and protest against using darts on animals.
I have a cabin about 130 miles north of NYC and we have tons of coyotes and bear up in that area. Its hard to see how the heck a coyote would get threw a the north part of manhattan to get into central park?? I might be mistaken, but wasnt there a fawn in central park about 5 yrs ago? I believe they darted that one also and released it upstate.
Last I knew they had a pretty bad rat problem in NYC. Maybe they should've just left the coyote alone.
NJ Transit most likely.
But the real mystery is where did he get the ticket?
From the news story:
The coyote, nicknamed Hal by Parks Department staffers, may have wandered into the city from Westchester County, perhaps swimming across a river.
I bet the coyote was happy to be in Central Park. The place is huge and the northern half is very hilly wooded terrain. There is plenty to drink and the food is bountiful, ducks, geese, squirrels, the homeless.

Gosh.....I wish someone would put this much effort in clearing out the hundreds of coyotes that run rampant around here!
Spontaneous generation?
Wouldn't a coyote being around be helpful to keeping down the rodent population (rats, mice)?
We have quite a few here in LA (Lower Alabama) attacking new born calves. The problem is bad enough to have local ranchers call my husband for assistance. He's an avid hunter and a fairly accurate shot up to 600 yards.
Beep beep!
MEEP, MEEP!
Shoot any and all, whenever and wherever you see them.
Won't find me in a city! Rarely go into one.
In my experience they go for larger game - rabbits, cats and small dogs. We've lost two cats to them here in North Dallas so far, but they do clean out the rabbit population quite nicely.

Arthur Cole, 76, was attacked...by a 40-pound gray coyote, according to police.
His grandson, Nicholas, escaped unhurt and ran the half-mile to his grandparents' house...
When Arthur's wife and Nicholas' dad asked, "Where's Grampy?" the youngster replied, "A wolf got him," ...

Well now we know what happened to all of the Central Park roadrunners.
I would rank a coyete problem right up there with mountain lions that range around in the southern California hills. They eat pets and occasionally attack humans. Every few years someone is mauled to death while hiking in the hills. Coyotes have been known to attack infants who are left unattended.
