Less than two weeks after former Twins center fielder Kirby Puckett died from a stroke, his ex-wife has taken legal steps to keep the Hall of Famer's personal memorabilia from falling into the wrong hands.
In a court document filed Friday in Maricopa County, Ariz., where Puckett lived when he died March 6, Tonya Puckett asked that a special administrator be appointed to inventory the contents of the ballplayer's Scottsdale home, which he shared with his fiancée.

So, does Puckett's wife seem like she's trying to safeguard his legacy for the kids - or does she seem like she's money-grubbing?
Opinions or comments - anyone?
the SMART money is on money-grubbing. It ALWAYS is!
Does Arizona have common law marriage laws? If he lived with his fiance, maybe they had a common law marriage.
Won't really know until after the fact.
This is the step she would need to take either way.
Any hands other than hers is the wrong hands. According to her. When people with money die it brings the worst out in their relatives.
Well, if there's no will, the ex-wife has no claim. However Kirby's offspring do, and the ex-wife is their guardian.
The fiancee is out of the picture entirely, unless Kirby had provided for her in a will.
It's easy to call the ex-wife a money-grubber, but who else is supposed to protect the rights of Kirby's offspring?
I think I'll withhold judment on this one until more information is available.

What, you won't make snap judgments and condemn people based on a one paragraph blurb? What's wrong with you?
"Any hands other than hers is the wrong hands. According to her."
Well, she's right. Kirby's kids are the only rightful heirs. She is the mother and legal guardian of those children. Who else would be in charge of Kirby's estate. The kids are minors.
This is just silliness. The mother of Kirby's children will be the administrator of the estate for her children. That's how it works, unless specific instructions have been created in Kirby's will.
"What, you won't make snap judgments and condemn people based on a one paragraph blurb? What's wrong with you?"
My apologies. Sheesh. I forgot myself.
Don't let Kirby's ex-wife anywhere near his loot! She'll just steal it from Kirby's kids! Pay no attention to the legal issues!
How's that? Better? [grin]
Just more evidence of the human condition and its consequences.
What grounds does she have to start grubbing now?
She has grounds to protect the estate on behalf of Catherine Puckett and Kirby Puckett, Jr., the children that Kirby had with her when they were married.
Is she the best choice for this?
Can't answer that, since I don't know the parties involved.
However, whenever someone dies intestate the court can't be expected to search the globe for "the best choice".
She's the mother of his legal heirs, who are presently minors. She's the logical choice, whether she's the best or not.
don't think so. if she was, she held her mouth all during funeral and memorial proceedings and appeared civil to Kirby's fiancee during the memorial service I watched on TV.
If what Kirby physically allegedly did to her while they were married didn't make her mad, I suppose a decade plus of cheating might.
As the saying goes,"Where theres a will, there is a relative'
I thought it was just my family!
LOL!!!
