Ever wondered why some places it's "The Fatherland" and other places it's "The Motherland"? (And in the case of the US I guess it is "The Homeland" although it will always be "Stateside" to me)
Hitler called it "Fatherland" because he wanted to present a masculine image to the world.
Russia was called "Motherland" because it was supposed to be "nurturing" so people would want to be a part of it.
"Homeland" for America has a definite feminine side, because of the Statue of Liberty.
When I was in Germany, we referred to the US as "The World." I'm sure that hasn't changed for any military anywhere in "the world."
I dunno really... Eire is the Ould Sod!!
