I wonder what the last three words were?

That's the real puzzle, here, and I did have one unexpected but obviously incorrect guess:
"April Fools! Psych!"

They cannot be "I am you", for the Traveller addresses the author as "Grandfather", at one point.

My best guess is: 'Islam' means 'peace'.

How emotionally would YOU react to those words if your world were in the 87th year of a global war with Islam; with millions in dhimmitude all over the Earth? I pretty much think that'd peg most people's "BS" reflex, myself.

Hmmm. IIRC, Islam is Arabic for "submission to the will of God."
