Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes Baby Battle: Catholicism or Scientology
http://www.nationalledger.com/artman/publish/article_27264166.shtml ^ | Mar 17, 2006 | Angela Carson

There has been plenty of speculation on the way the fabulous Katie Holmes is to give birth to her baby. The little one could come at any moment and it appears that Tom Cruise and Katie are already battling over the baby.

No - they are not battling over how the baby will be born, but what happens if the pair split after the little one emerges. The rub reportedly is the baby's religion - Catholicism or Scientology?

Life & Style Magazine details in this week's report that Katie is miserable and if there is a split - as that magazine has predicted - Tom’s demanding sole custody of their child-to-be. That reportedly left Katie in tears.

Normally, a custody battle wouldn’t start until after a child’s birth. But nothing’s normal when it comes to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Multiple insiders say Tom recently approached Katie with a shocking request: Give him sole custody of their baby, who’s due as soon as April. “Katie went absolutely nuts and stormed off in tears,” says one insider.

Since Tom, 43, went so far as to ask Katie, 27, to sign papers granting him custody, her dad, Martin Holmes, a Toledo, Ohio, divorce attorney, promptly became involved. Martin called Tom, the insider says, and accused him of treating his daughter like dirt. “If you don’t stop, there will be hell to pay,” Martin warned him.

Cue the rep: Tom’s rep denies the story.

There are many more details in the print article, but the speculated reason is straight out of South Park. Tom wants the baby to be raised as a Scientologist and not a Catholic.

It's tough to see Katie's dad allowing that to happen without a fight.

Cruise is a nut. I feel very sorry for Katie...

I can't muster up any sympathy for this idiot.

The kid is a different story.

"Two very bad choices..Either being brain washed by this crazy space group or being molested by a priest.."

Gotta keep him out of school, karate class, soccer team, T-ball, and summer camp too, then, considering the comparable percentage of sex-abusers among the teachers, coaches, and camp counselors...

I'm delighted to know this lady has a six-gun-toting attorney at her side. Tom Cruise is going to get his teeth, and then his head, handed to him.

It's as if Cruise has a vendetta against the Church, and has set out to corrupt as many Catholic women as he can. Maybe there is something in his past we don't know about. I have read that he had considered becoming an Orthodox priest at one point.

'South Park'-Scientology Battle Rages On

"South Park" has declared war on Scientology. Matt Stone and Trey Parker, creators of the animated satire, are digging in against the celebrity-endorsed religion after a controversial episode mocking outspoken Scientologist Tom Cruise was yanked abruptly from the schedule Wednesday _ with an Internet report saying it was covert warfare by Cruise that led to its departure.

"So, Scientology, you may have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for earth has just begun!" the "South Park" creators said in a statement Friday in Daily Variety. "Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies... You have obstructed us for now, but your feeble bid to save humanity will fail!"

The Internet blogger hollywoodinterrupted.com said Thursday that Cruise threatened to not promote "Mission: Impossible 3," a surefire summer blockbuster, if the offending episode ran. Comedy Central is owned by Viacom, as is Paramount, which is putting out the film.

MManager,

Welcome to Free Republic! Thanks for the post.

Your comments require a longer response than I'm able to give this morning.

But I would say that you're wholly right of course.

Some FReepers may take the Tom and Katies too seriously. Most of the abuse, though, is because it's such good sport.

Again, welcome.

"Cue the rep: Tom’s rep denies the story." - We've heard that a few times this week. I'm hoping he'll do to MI3, what he did to his last movie.

I think that most of Hollywood's outrage at Cruise comes from his divorce from Kidman, who has replaced Liza Minnelli, who previously had replaced Elizabeth Taylor as Official Darling of the Queers.

Well, I guess I didn't know that Hollywood didn't like him. I just truly don't like his acting. Hated him in Topgun, and every role I've seen him in since, although I must say I haven't seen many of his movies all the way through. Generally I just come upon them while surfing cable and keep surfing, as soon as my eyes roll.

There are several... here is one...

Cults and Cosmic Consciousness: Religious Vision in the American 1960s

“New Age induces a benevolent relaxation that may be disabling in the face of aggression. In a world of terrorism, New Agers can only take to the hills and leave their scriptures in jars at Esalen.”

Camille Paglia, Cults and Cosmic Consciousness: Religious Vision in the American 1960s

“What gay ideologues, inflated like pink balloons with poststructuralist hot air, can’t admit, of course, is that heterosexuality is nature’s norm, enforced by powerful hormonal cues at puberty. In the past decade, one shoddy book after another, rapturously applauded by p.c. reviewers, has exaggerated the incidence of homosexuality in the animal world and, without due regard for reproductive adaptations caused by environmental changes, toxins or population pressure, reductively interpreted bonding or hierarchical behavior as gay in the human sense.”

Camille Paglia, professor of humanities and media studies at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
