Tom Wopat, who played Luke Duke on the TV series "The Dukes of Hazzard," faces a drunken driving charge in northern New Jersey, authorities said Friday.
Wopat was arrested in Ringwood and charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving, said Bill Maer, a spokesman for the Passaic County sheriff's department.
He was pulled from a Ford Bronco Wednesday night after hitting orange traffic cones and nearly striking a Ringwood police car sent to an accident, Maer said.
Wopat, 54, of West Milford, was released into the custody of his girlfriend, Maer said.
In the TV series, which aired from 1979 to 1985, Luke Duke and his cousin Bo, played by John Schneider, were known for driving a speedy 1969 Dodge Charger, the General Lee.
A movie based on the series was released last year.
In recent years, Wopat has worked on Broadway.
Coo Coo Coo! I love it! I love it!
Roscoe finnaly cuffed and stuffed one of the Duke Boys!!
"someday the orange cones might get him but the law never will (unless it's some New Jersey cop and he's drunk)"
Maybe he saw the movie, and it drove him to...oh never mind!
Boss only released him because it would mess up his plans to pin the heist on the Duke boys if Luke was already in jail.
This passed for entertainment for six years in the late 20th century?
The innocent age...
YEEEEEEE-HAAAAWWWWWW!
Okay so I'm thinkin... so what? This might have some juice over at the ET site but hmmmm...
A Ford Bronco? You're kidding?
What happened to the General?
Seven seasons. It entertained me and still does on DVD.
A mod can and probably will move it to chat.
I understand. I still have very fond memories of the Road Runner, Bugs Bunny, and the whole Hannah-Barbera menagerie. The Three Stooges, too.
However, my only tie to the Dukes of Hazard is that a) I did occasionally watch it, on Saturday nights, I believe; and b) I owned a 1969 Dodge Charger which I sold to my sister right about the time the series made it an icon. She subseqently sold it for three times as much.
As long as she still likes to get dirty, I'm happy.
Dirtier' n' mudhole
