DISGRACEFUL....The U.S.A. goes down 2-1 to Mexico who were the heavy underdog....team U.S.A. with all of its heroes manages to lose to Canada...Korea...and Mexico...and is eliminated.
The country that created baseball goes home.We lose with the greatest players available against day laborer baseball players. What is it with american super teams...the U.S. olympic hockey and basketball teams....and now this disgrace.

D-Train is awesome in regular season games...he just can't step up to the plate on the world stage i.e. WBC or WS games....hell even during the playoffs he was pitchin weak sauce.

The "Curse of A-Rod" strikes again!!!Ha! I was thinking the same thing...."Here's another team A-Rod's a part of that doesn't win anything."
We should make sure he's registered as a Democrat. ;^)

A-Rod puts up great stats, of that there is no question. But what does he do when it really matters....nada.
When he was in Texas, the Rangers at one point lost 20 out of 22 games, during that period, A-Fraud batted around .200 with Runners in Scoring Position.
Hitting meaningless home runs may look good on the stat sheet, but it doesn't help your team win games.

"They looked like it was the first week of spring training. ......no rhythm, no timing, no nothin'. Rusty as can be. A lot of players on the Latin American teams play winter ball, so they're far more prepared. As hole_n_one mentioned, if this were played around the All-Star break we'd see a completely different team."Legitimate points.

The next time, USA Baseball will be more ready. See the reforms made to USA Basketball after the last debacle: the selection of one "czar" to control policy and personnel; the insistence that national team members sign up for the 2006 World Championships as well as the 2008 Olympics; and the selection of players who have a desire to play. I expect hockey will follow the same model. Losing once is no shame; losing twice badly would be.

The level of play would have been better had it been at mid-season, but it still looked to me that the players took it for granted and thought it would be some exhibition.
...........
Losing these kind of events on the world stage is embarrassing, and it is somewhat of a propaganda thing (you can bet Cuba, if they win, will use it).
A few years ago the U.S. amateur boxing team fought the British team, and they lost EVERY bout. The press there made a big deal over it, and when I e-mailed someone I knew there, he told me "boxing is a combat sport, and you guys just aren't good at fighting." So it is a national pride thing.

And frankly, whoever heard of The America's Cup regatta, or even The Ryder Cup, until the US was beaten? If the US won it every time, who would care?

Let one of these "teams" play the World Series champion, in a seven game series, for big money. It would be a four game wipeout by the US. How long has it been since the World Series champion was pretty much the equivalent of "the U.S.?"
Most MLB teams these days have a lot of foreign-born players on their rosters.
