>>Yet, thousands of "top" breeders or dealers will very readily sell both puppies and older dogs sight-unseen (on both ends) to people thousands of miles away whom they hardly know, never seeing them, because they just ship the dog cross-country or cross-Atlantic. <<
Most good breeders ship dogs across country to buyers they already know through the show circuit. We have friends all over the country...
Well it happens in Shepherds all the time, particularly the Euro Shepherds who are wheeling and dealing all the time. My sister included (as a pet owner). And I think she got a fraud (never mind the floppy ears which is just a fault) - her dog *has* to be American lines, not Euro as was claimed.
I just don't believe in sight-unseen purchases, esp. for living animals.
My point exactly about online auctions.....
Yes. I just don't like what I see as basic hypocrisy by the cliques that do (I even had a well-known breeder freely offer that) indeed exist in the show world.
(And no, that's not including you, as I'm sure you're ethical; just alot of what I've observed and it's easy to surmise based on how some breeds have magically changed.)
>I do too, but the dog behavior issues are no different. Dogs are either adaptable even coming from bad environments or they aren't. Just sayin' is all.<
I am so proud of our local shelter. They have added an animal behaviorist to their staff. Now, people who adopt a puppy or adult dog are encouraged to attend their obedience classes, and, the behaviorist will help a family select the dog that most fits their needs, and their expectations. Families with little kids are steered away from dogs who are not child tolerant, and the elderly are helped to find a calm, easy-care pet.
They are really doing a good job of making sure that each home for their animals is a happy, permanent one.
