LEBANON, Va. -- A former southwest Virginia emergency medical worker who fatally zapped a co-worker with a cardiac defibrillator was sentenced to time in state prison Tuesday.
Prosecutors said Joshua Martin was goofing around last June when he put the defibrillator paddles to coworker Courtney Hilton's side and gave her a fatal jolt of electricity.
Martin pleaded guilty to involuntary Manslaughter in January. He cried and apologized to Courtney Hilton's family in court.
Russell County Circuit Judge Mike Moore suspended four years of a five-year sentence.
Martin has been in jail since January. He must serve a remaining 10 months behind bars, followed by five years on probation.
Idiot
What a dumbass.
IBTZ!
Oops, too late
A year in jail, thats all her life was worth?
The guy was a stupid jerk and should serve the full 5 years.
I remember when the first thread on this was posted a while back.
He deserves a lot more time in prison than he got, IMO.
Fool.
I recently learned how to operate those things. They are not a toy. However, I did not see a sticker on it stating "DANGER - UNIT CAN BE DEADLY" Maybe they should pick a little sticker on it.
Hmmmm, don't let Hillary read about this...we will see a whole new bunch of "apparent heart attacks" around the Clintoons....
Shocked ....... I tell you.
It was certainly more than foolish.
A really reVOLTing development.
5 years in jail? That's all her life was worth? I think he should get the defibrillator chair.
Someone help me out here.
I thought I'd once heard that a defibrillator won't work unless the electrodes detect something out of whack in the patient's heart rhythm.
lol (but I guess this really isn't a laughing matter)
Many years ago, I worked in a restaurant. The owner's son was one of the managers, and like me, was in his mid-20s. He was a nice guy. Everyone had fun working and partying after the busy night shifts.
In the busy kitchen one night, he showed me a stun gun that he carried for protection. He kept teasing that he was going to use it on me. I don't know if he would have or not. I remember looking him in the eye, and I told him that if he stung me, I would sue his father's ass off, and he'd be working for me.
He should have gotten 20 years for this. As a former EMT worker, he must have known what would happen.

He needs a paddle stuck to each cheek of his arse and the trigger pulled.
TWICE.
I agree with you but was only commenting on the way the judge sentenced him.
Out of five years the judge is only going to make him serve one.
