Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented today on the news that Isaac Hayes has quit South Park because of an episode that attacked his religion, the Church of Scientology:
It is nothing short of amazing to read that South Park co-creator Matt Stone is now charging Isaac Hayes with intolerance and bigotry for not complaining earlier about all the shows South Park did making fun of Christians. Forget about Hayesthe real issue here is the two-faced, super-bratty response from Stone. For him to lecture Hayes on intolerance and bigotry is on the order of John Gotti lecturing Curtis Sliwa on ethics. After all, it was on South Park last year that they depicted the Virgin Mary spraying blood from her vagina. How would Stone know anything about tolerance?
And now we learn that Stone and his buddy Trey Parker were moved to take a shot at Scientology because they were ticked off that their equally foul-mouthed friend, Penn Jillette, was banned from ripping Scientology on his crude Showtime series, Bulls - - t. Forget about Stone and Parkerthe real issue here is the cowardly, hypocritical response from Jillette. Last year, Jillette went on a rampage against Mother Teresa calling her Mother F- - king Teresa. Yet this same big oaf hasnt got the guts to slam Scientologists for fear of upsetting his bigoted boss, Sumner Redstone (he is chairman of Viacom, which owns Showtime). As for Redstone, he wrote to me last August defending Jillettes assault on Mother Teresa saying we as an organization are committed to artistic freedom. Not when it comes to Scientologiststheir penchant for filing lawsuits scares the daylights out of him.
What does it take to get the New York-Hollywood gang to stop with their Catholic bashing? Threats of beheadings? Threats of lawsuits? Seems that way. What ever happened to common decency?
Media-whore alert! Find something even remotely related to rome and he'll piss about it.
How about the Big "M" himself--Muhammad? Where's the episode depicting Muhammad rooting in a pigsty?
I have always thought Terrance and Phillip were a spoof of Wayne and Shuster--the only Canadian comedy team in the last 50 years.
The funny thing is, I wouldn't want them to go after Islam the way they went after Mormonism and Scientology. I thought the Scientology thing was derivative of the Mormon episode and I don't want to see it again applied to Islam. I'll still laugh, I'm sure, but I want them to be original.
Interesting... Could be, I'm not familiar with them.
Kill off Chef by him getting butt raped to death by Gene Simmons.
oh, Mr. T of course!
Or cowardly and snivelling, depending on your point of view.
Who's the black public d--k
That's quit South Park, provin' he's a p---k?
(CHEF!)
You're damn right
Who's the hypocrite
That can dish it out but can't take that $#!#?
(CHEF!)
Can ya dig it?
Who's the cat that wants released
Cuz' he got bitched at by his cults' priests?
(CHEF!)
Outta that contract!

(Shut your mouth)
But I'm talkin' about CHEF
(Then we can see it)
He's a complicated man
But no one understands him but his cu--ult
(that's CHEF)
Great! Thanks for that info. And thanks for filling in for EveningStar... you're doing a great job! :o)
I'm sure Matt and Trey will deal with the "Chef matter" in the show somehow. I'm not sure what it might be, but I'm sure of one thing: It should not be viewed by anyone.
It'll be vile and wrong and really, really funny.
"Hmmm. Who would have made him quit? I wonder who...Could it be...THETAN????"
I heard he was in trouble with the IRS and didn't have time for South Park any more...someone said he was being audited.
Hell yeah!
"And you don't see the irony of using a censored expletive to say SP is crude? That's the funny part."

Oh I see it, and your pic is clever.
Still, SP is crude adolescent humor...the fact that I am also crude does not change that fact. However, I admit I need to work on it....and that crude not a good thing. I have many other flaws that need work too.
FWIW...I am FAR less crude than I was 10 years ago....and that improvement has come from admitting that I need to work on it and actually working on it.
10 years ago I would have LOVED SP, and would have been hammering away like all the other SP fans on this site.
I am getting really tired of posting this to people who have never watched the show.
Muhammad. Not rooting in a pig sty, but rather, standing next to Jesus as one of the "Super Best Friends" - a takeoff on the SuperFriends cartoon of my childhood. They did this a few seasons ago, before showing Muhamad in a cartoon was considered some kind of litmus test for whether a comedian had "guts".
You want to portray him in a pig sty? Think that'd be funny? Get your own show. As for Matt and Trey, they have their own way of looking at things, and have a pretty good track record for finding what's funny about people. They'd probably find more humor in YOU daring them to draw Muhammad than any drawing of Muhammad ever would have.
At least I think you're pretty funny.
Well that goes without saying :~D
Parker and pal are scared sh*tless to do it.
I'd say they don't really "go after" religion itself, but rather they go after the *followers* of various religions. They've never really made fun of Christianity itself, for example, but have absolutely skewered some of the nutty things that happen in its name.
The Scientology episode may be a little different, if only because they are *so* asking for it. I mean... really... Scientology *demands* ridicule. It's not like its a "real" religion or anthing. :-)
Matt and Trey only insult easy targets that won't and can't strike back. Don't lecture me on their supposed fearlessness.
