Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented today on the news that Isaac Hayes has quit “South Park” because of an episode that attacked his religion, the Church of Scientology:
“It is nothing short of amazing to read that ‘South Park’ co-creator Matt Stone is now charging Isaac Hayes with ‘intolerance and bigotry’ for not complaining earlier about all the shows ‘South Park’ did ‘making fun of Christians.’ Forget about Hayes—the real issue here is the two-faced, super-bratty response from Stone. For him to lecture Hayes on intolerance and bigotry is on the order of John Gotti lecturing Curtis Sliwa on ethics. After all, it was on ‘South Park’ last year that they depicted the Virgin Mary spraying blood from her vagina. How would Stone know anything about tolerance?
“And now we learn that Stone and his buddy Trey Parker were moved to take a shot at Scientology because they were ticked off that their equally foul-mouthed friend, Penn Jillette, was banned from ripping Scientology on his crude Showtime series, ‘Bulls - - t.’ Forget about Stone and Parker—the real issue here is the cowardly, hypocritical response from Jillette. Last year, Jillette went on a rampage against Mother Teresa calling her ‘Mother F- - king Teresa.’ Yet this same big oaf hasn’t got the guts to slam Scientologists for fear of upsetting his bigoted boss, Sumner Redstone (he is chairman of Viacom, which owns Showtime). As for Redstone, he wrote to me last August defending Jillette’s assault on Mother Teresa saying ‘we as an organization are committed to artistic freedom.’ Not when it comes to Scientologists—their penchant for filing lawsuits scares the daylights out of him.
“What does it take to get the New York-Hollywood gang to stop with their Catholic bashing? Threats of beheadings? Threats of lawsuits? Seems that way. What ever happened to common decency?”
Much ado about Nothing. This is what South Park Does...they make fun of things....everyone is so damn touchy. And it is hypocritical for Isaac Hayes to et all upset now. He has every right to, but it is hypocritical.
Hollywood is doomed, as it is the harlot, and home to the teeth gnashers, outlined in the Revelation Testament.
Thier reward is allready planned in the Bible, looking for fairness in Hollywood, is a moot point.

Isaac Hayes will not come out of the closet!!
I'm with Stone on this one. Scientology is an aggressive cult and they should be mocked and mocked hard. Hayes quit because the Operational Thetans told him to.
Outspoken Scientologist Isaac Hayes, an Oscar-winning singer heard by millions in recent years as the "Chef" character on "South Park," has quit the cartoon four months after an episode spoofing Scientology.
"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins," the 63-year-old soul singer said in a statement.
"Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be respected and honored," he continued, never mentioning the Scientology episode, but citing the recent controversy over cartoon depictions of the prophet Muhammad. "As a civil-rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices."
In an interview with the Associated Press, "South Park" co-creator Matt Stone responded sharply, saying, "This is 100 percent having to do with his faith of Scientology. ... He has no problem – and he's cashed plenty of checks – with our show making fun of Christians."
He said he and co-creator Trey Parker "never heard a peep out of Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin."
In a previous interview published by ContactMusic.com, Parker said they avoided animated shows about Scientology for years because they didn't wish to upset Hayes, who gained fame in the 1970s with his song, "Shaft," from the movie of the same name.
"To be honest, what kept us from doing it before was Isaac Hayes. We knew he was a Scientologist and he's an awesome guy. We're like, 'Let's just avoid that for now,'" Parker said. "Finally, we just had to tell Isaac, 'Dude, we totally love working with you, and this is nothing personal, it's just we're South Park, and if we don't do this, we're belittling everything else we've ripped on.'"
The episode that focused on Scientology originally aired on Comedy Central in November, and did not include Hayes' name in the end credits.

It featured a cartoon boy on the show being mistaken for L. Ron Hubbard, the science-fiction writer who founded the religion. A portion of the show had Scientologists explaining the basic beliefs of the faith, including aliens populating the Earth, with a statement that flashed on screen reading, "This is what Scientologists actually believe." The faith has been featured prominently in the media in recent years, with high-profile members including John Travolta, Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze and Fox News Channel host Greta Van Susteren.
"South Park" became an instant hit after its original animated short in the late 1990s depicted Jesus in a fierce battle against Santa Claus over the meaning of Christmas.
Hayes looks like a cult-controlled idiot on this. Stone's answer was right on the money.
Donahue has less of a following than what's left following Cindy Sheehan.

This Bill Donahue guy doesn't seem to get it. Stone makes fun of everyone. Just cause he picks on your sacred cow doesn't make him intolerant. It makes him an equal opportunity ball buster. And what's wrong with his point that Hayes is a hypocrite? Isn't it the exact same point Donahue is making about Jillette??

Is there a religion that SP hasn't made fun of yet? In reality, their supposed mocking of Christianity has really been mocking the antics of 'Christians', not Christianity..

At least Matt Stone is being consistent in how he treats things. It's Isaac Hayes who comes off looking like a chump for participating in a project that mocked the faith of others while considering his own to be sacrosanct.
They make fun of muzzies, trust me. They make fun of everything.
Stone isn't being two faced. South Park makes fun of everyone.
South Park can definately be considered offensive. But they are equal opportunity offenders.
I have no problem with Hayes choosing to quit the show because he disagreed with one of their episodes. However, I don't think Stone's comments about Hayes are unreasonable either. Hayes had no problem with the show making fun of other religions. He only had problems with them making fun of his.
Hayes has made a considerable amount of money working on a show that has made a habbit of making fun of everyone. Hayes is able to consider the bashing of other religions to be light hearted entertainment, but when it comes to his own religion he has a different standard.
Doesn't sound like Stones comments were unreasonable to me.
It's time somebody with talent came with a spoof on South Park - or of its creators...or both.

You don't think they've ever made fun of Islam? Admittedly, I am no SP expert, but there are those who are. I will check this out, but I'm sure they did.
