Soul singer Isaac Hayes quits 'South Park'

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Soul singer Isaac Hayes said Monday he was quitting his job as the voice of the lusty character "Chef" on the satiric cable TV cartoon "South Park," citing the show's "inappropriate ridicule" of religion.

But series co-creator Matt Stone said the veteran recording artist was upset the show had recently lampooned the Church of Scientology, of which Hayes is an outspoken follower.

"In ten years and over 150 episodes of 'South Park,' Isaac never had a problem with the show making fun of Christians, Muslim, Mormons or Jews," Stone said in a statement issued by the Comedy Central network.

"He got a sudden case of religious sensitivity when it was his religion featured on the show."

Naw, I think he just hoped that Matt and Trey would not have time to come up with a very creative killing off for Chef. As I said on the other thread, I think Chef is going to be man-raped by Big Gay Al, and then shoot himself over the shame of actually enjoying it.

No 'need' to watch it - I can read a 2 sentence review about a show for simpletons and not waste my precious time actually having to 'watch' it...

So you're basing your entire premise on a two-sentence review? Written by whom, somebody with sour grapes over being lampooned on SP themselves?

...what is so hard to understand about a program that showcases killing, nudity...is gross and lewd...

I take it you consider Aristophanes, Shakespeare, and Hieronymus Bosch "classless and sophomoric" as well, or are you too much of a "simpleton" to have heard of them?

Many of my thoughts are along the humor lines of South Park. I would love to write for those guys. I've got a few ideas for Cartman's mom I KNOW they would love.

You DO realise that this means NONstop ridicule of Scientology -- a ridiculous 'religion' to begin with.

My belief that is not based on proof is better than your belief that is not based on proof.

A.K.A., my faith is better than your faith.

LOL!

The last I check Scientology isn't a violent religion. It's no less ridiculous than any other non-violent religion.

Did you know that Mrs. Cartman's first name is Leanne, the name of the woman who Trey was engaged to, who broke the engagement, and his heart, in college.

Leanne is also the name of his horse in Cannibal! The Musical.

Never break the heart of a songwriter or a comedian, and especially not a comedic songwriter :~D

He's used "Leanne" Cartman less and less as the seasons have gone on.... time heals all wounds I guess :~D

Well, the episode goes like this:

All the children in Southpark are in danger of not passing the new mandatory tests before they can advance to the next grade level. There is a shortage of tutors, so the town starts testing people to see who has the highest IQ and would be willing to tutor students to get their scores up.

It turns out the Cartman's mom is the smartest woman in South Park, and all the other women in town are convinced that by being sluts, they can raise their IQ's too. Since Chef has killed himself in the prior episode, an emergency call goes out to Matthew McConehey to service all the women in South Park, after all the men are worn out, and can no longer function.

The South Park boys wonder what all this high-IQ stuff is all about, and determine that it is better to have a low IQ, then to have to switch to boxer shorts like all their dads.

I'd say so... not just that Mrs. Cartman is a crack whore, but you should hear the songs and dialogue about Leanne (not to mention the commentaries) in the Cannibal movie :~D

Neither my wife, nor I, have ever watched South Park...truly a show for idiots and dolts.

Yeah, we should all pine for the laugh out loud humor of "Donna Reed" and "Leave it to Beaver." You hoity-toity folks are the real idiots.

Well... no... actually it's a LOT more ridiculous than pretty much any other. Really. Even totally pretend religions, like wiccans, get a good belly laugh at scientologists. And that's saying something...

soooo....you get to call everybody that watches the show "idiots and dolts" and nobody is allowed to tell you that you are an ignorant a$$? Cool trick, that.

I was hoping they'd have the Scientologists kill Chef. Episode would have a hit out on Stan for impersonating the reincarnation of L. Ron Hubbard.

Make it a take off on the game "Clue." Tom Cruise is the murderer...in the closet...with an e-meter. Show Chef's thetans ascending to meet Xenu.

Of course, "OMG. Tom Cruise killed Chef. You b@st@rd!"

Well okay... your non-violent belief -- that is not based on proof -- is better than their non-violent belief --- that is not based on proof.

Got it.
