NEW YORK (AP) -- Isaac Hayes has quit "South Park," where he voices Chef, saying he can no longer stomach its take on religion.

Hayes, who has played the ladies' man/school cook in the animated Comedy Central satire since 1997, said in a statement Monday that he feels a line has been crossed.

"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins," the 63-year-old soul singer and outspoken Scientologist said.

Yep. Quit and say something AFTER he's made buckets of money on the show.

Just damn.

This quote is different from the other story

"Stone told The AP he and co-creator Trey Parker "never heard a peep out of Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin."

(Awaiting large donation to charity from "Chef" Hayes in the amount of all the money he made on that show during its 'intolerant' 'bigotry')

Who cares? South Park will continue without him. And this wasn't news in the first place, which is why it's now in the Chat section, where it will be universally ignored, as it should be.

So he voices a guy who sings about chocolate salty balls, group sex, etc etc and when they poke fun of religion (ahem, his religion) for the bazillionth time, he is offended and quits?

And I thought he had a sense of humor.

I really can't imagine the high ups in the Church of Scientology letting him keep working there.

Not after the Tom Cruise in the closet episode.

Rumor is that the South Park boys did not take any shots at Scientology because of Isaac being on the show, once he left they unloaded with both barrels with the Tom Cruise in the closet episode.

No. It's in chat because it is not news. Nobody cares if someone quits on South Park. FR is a political forum, not an entertainment blog.

Then you would think they wouldn't have done the Tom Cruise episode yet. Didn't he just quit?

My fingers work faster than my brain in most cases, given that most stories that I post are news as opposed to chat stories. Mea culpa...

Uh ... wasn't the very first ever episode (Jesus vs. Santa) kind of a slam against religion? Why did that not matter?

"I guess he's a Catholic."

Or a Muslim. Or a Jew. Or a Mormon. Or a Scientologist. Or a PETA lover. Or several other religions I'm forgetting.

Those have all been satirized on "SP".

Wow. Well, then the News section should be pretty cleaned up if this made it to Chat, considering it is more News then some of the idiotic vanities we get in the category.
