Let me tell you my old eating habits:
1. Eating a X-Large Pizza by myself
2. Eat a triple cheesburgers from Wendy's
3. Eat big breakfast, big lunches, big dinners.
That is only the tip of the iceberg...

LOL!
I've found that so much of weight loss is mental. Not looking at diet and exercise as a punishment, but as healthy lifestyle changes. People don't stay in shape by pulling a chair up to the buffet and laying on the couch. We have to choose to get and stay healthy.

Thanks for the ping. I tried Dreamfields Pasta that was mentioned on the initial thread. Great stuff. It doesn't taste like a low carb pasta.

Howdy! Here is my weight loss story. I had babies back to back and my body pretty much shuts down while pregnant. I can barely walk up steps without muscle burn, and if I did go without it, I would get motion sickness and not want to move anyway. I have participated in sports my whole life and never had to worry about weight. Even when I wasn't on a team after college, I worked out, played pick up b-ball at the rec center, swam in a master swim program, did Tang Soo Do, ran, rock climbed, mountain biked, tennis and hiked. Yes, I am a very active person. Since the kiddos came, I am much less active, but still liked to eat like I was active. I started losing weight, but then would reward myself and slack off or hit a plateau and get discouraged. Granted I wasn't terribly huge, but I was embarrassed when I saw people.
Last fall, I got serious about losing weight and did pretty well. Then I had a massive setback called my yearly exam. I found out my scale was off by 7 pounds and not in a good way. I got very determined after the initial shock passed, and of course the feelings of anger towards the nurse practioner who believed their scale was correct. I had to play in an alumni basketball game January 16 at my university. I wanted to not be the frumpy housewife around my former teammates. Of course, I didn't lose weight, but I did tone up. I was walking on the treadmill 5 days a week and got a weight training circuit video. I used to run, but I have been having problems with tingling in my 3rd toe (I think it is a neuroma, swollen nerve) so went back to walking. I have lost 8 pounds since January 16, I may have lost 10 pounds, but when I had some luck on the scale, I assumed it was wrong and moved the needle back 2 pounds. If I lost another 5 pounds, I would be very happy, if I lost 10, I would be down to my weight when I got married and played b-ball in college. That would be amazing for me...
btw, I have an appoint with a podiatrist about the feet, hopefully a shot of cortizone and orthotics will fix my feet. Darn kids, my feet changed so much!!!

I received this book with an order of vitamins I ordered from:
http://www.womentowoment.com
which by the way are excellent vitamins. The Schwarzbein Principle is not necessarily a diet to lose weight, but to achieve good health. It's a very very balanced approach. She explains in a way anyone can understand how our metabolism works, what happens to it when we eat the right stuff and the wrong stuff. And it shows how the low fat diets the medical profession promotes is soooooo bad for us. It was a real eye opener, made incredible sense and logic.
It's very hard to explain, but if anyone is seriously looking for some answers on things like, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, heart problems, etc. they should at least take the time to read this book. If you've tried the things you doctor has told you and not gotten good results this might be the answer.
A year ago I truly believed I was dieing I felt so bad. Hurt all over. After just 3 days eating the way this book tells you too, I started making a turn around, and in 2 weeks felt 20 years younger. I've lost 15 lbs. Gained more lean body mass, and have tons more energy.

It sounds like you are on the right track!
I can totally related to the bit about the scale. My home scale and the Weight Watcher's office scale are off around 10ish pounds. I was mortified when I first weighed in. I couldn't speak at all because I thought if I opened my mouth at all I was going to cry.
The good part about it is that it keeps me from weighing myself obsessively at home.

Re. Control for Ice Cream and other carbs.
This was one of the eye opening moments for me.
Our bodies are designed to eat meat. Our digestive system is almost identical to a dogs, and not similar at all to a cow.
Because of this, we have natural triggers for when we are full if eating protein and fat. Have you noticed that you can sit with a nice steak and feel full and leave some on the plate?
But, we don't have triggers for when we are full of carbs. This is because the sugar in the carbs acts like a drug to our system and overrides any full trigger. So, after you have said you were full of steak, you still magically have room for that chocolate cake that is on the desert menu.

Have you tried the south beach pizza?

That was something I learned from the book I've been talking about. It was an eye opening thing for me too:)
