Will someone, anyone, tell me what the story is with people, especially men, wearing toxic levels of cologne.

Point by point
a)So n00bs get an auto zot?
b)How do you link a chat topic? we have the OFST that is non-linkable but gets close to a thousand psts on friday and the poster isn't zotted.
c)I've seen 1-word vanities that didn't get the zot (UNNNGH!)
d)He replied, see posts 5 & 6

There is nothing trollish, in my opinion, about this post. I agree that heavy cologne and perfume usage is offensive, alot moreso than cigarette smoke in evere cases.

Pardon me, man who knows all.

I meant First Thread - not first post.

Please, I beg your forgiveness.

Sorry if I came off too defensively. The point I was trying to make, I can smoke outside, I can put my cigarette out, I can not smoke in an effort to be courteous to others, but four hours since I left the restaurant, I can still smell that cologne. Cologne and perfume used to be used by people (except little blue haired ladies) as a discrete personal signature, not an announcement to the entire county that they are there. Just a faint whiff of some perfumes can transport me to other times and wonder "What does she look like now?" The secret was the subtlety.
When you're in church or on a bus and you hear fifteen people with that persistent dry cough, I'd bet it's caused the overbearing colognes.

Not my first thread

I posted it under society not breaking earth shattering news.

Thank you for your welcoming graciousness.

That's what we're here for... to be gracious to vanity posters we disagree with.

I'm with you on the cologne thing. Not only does certain strong scents trigger allergy attacks in my case, but on occasion migranes as well. Those people who have to bath in that stuff apparently have NO sense of smell or common courtesy as well.

Welcome to FR.

Some people just like to be cantankerous. Don't let it bother you too much. After a while you'll know who they are.

Same here. And when I explain it to the waiter/hostess they are not offended and seat me at another table without any fuss. Now if I'm already seated first and have my food before the odoriferous patron is seated nearby, it's a little more difficult but after a bout of uncontrollable sneezing and my sinuses clog and my eyes water, I can't smell anything anyway. SO I at least get sympathy (and a to go box).

BTW, for me, smoke-filled rooms have the same effect except that my throat and lungs feel raw for a couple days after, so if it makes you feel better, Joisey, consider your affect on people like me your revenge.

"Can't get lung cancer from Obsession by Calvin Klein."

No, a person who is allergic can just go into anaphylactic shock from it and die on the spot. I don't think that's "better" than cancer.

That's why the thread head said "toxic."

I dont understand perfume at all

Especially since the French invented it to cover up the stench of feces back when bathrooms were the stairwells in the palaces.

In many parts of Boston what you're describing is referred to as an "Irish shower".

(I'm Irish so I'm allowed to say that)

The teens are into wearing a lot of perfume. It does not bother me and I would not call it "toxic" as humanity has managed to survive with perfume forever.

Some people are allergic to it just as some are allergic to cigarette smoke. We should never shape public policy around the health issues of a few. Some are allergic to the fumes of your car and hate the smell of it. If we do this, we will lose all freedom because anything the elite want to ban, they can do so in the name of health.
