I've gained 40 pounds in the past year (due to Remeron, which I discontinued the minute I found out I'd gained 40 pounds). Now I have to take it off, and I'm not sure where to begin.
I'm trying the Sonoma Diet, along with biking a couple miles a day (my knees don't want me to do much more than that) and would love to know others' success stories on Sonoma, if any.

I just cut out a lot of the "heart attack food" that I usually eat. I gave up the ham, salami and pepperoni for Lent. I've managed to avoid cookies even though my house is full of them, and I haven't touched any of the ice cream in the freezer. Snack foods? Weeeeeelllll, I've avoided chips and pretzels, but next weekend I'll be binging on that stuff 'cause I'm going to a Sci-Fi convention for the weekend and I'll be eating poorly in the Con Suite.
I haven't started any particular exercise program, not even the small weights that are in the house. But I'm noticing a small difference. Before Christmas, I was up around 210 and I'm at around 200 now. Time will tell if I can keep it up. Or down, as the case may be.

Please include me on your list. I'm interested in exercise and weight loss tips, and I also enjoy the jokes. I'm in my mid-40s, so I'm struggling to get to/ stay at a reasonable weight as I head into "the change." Also, my blood pressure tends to be on the high side.
I'm really looking forward to this thread!

Come on girl, you can do it. You have too many reasons not to. My Rosacea cleared up on Atkins also. I think there may be some of us who are allergic to sugar. Have you tried Breyer's Carb Smart Ice Cream? I like it better than the sugared ice cream. There are some good Atkins web sites where you can find good quick recipes. Eating out is no problem. I ate out last night. Had stuffed Flounder, salad and green beans. Just avoid the potatoes, pasta and bread. Subway has a great Chicken Ranch Wrap. Wendy's has some great salads. We ate breakfast this morning at Golden Corral. I had southwestern eggs (lots of them), bacon and sausage and coffee. I sweeten with Splenda.

Too late. I'm down 65 lbs (gunning for 35 more), and I'm getting so cut that I need bandaids.

The doc told hubby to wear them religeously for 2 years and he would have no more problem. He was right.

Thanks for the reality check [along with the return of pain this week] that a couple months was not enough.

Oops, I thought by your name that you were a...gasp....girl. Sorry.
Do a keyword search on FR for Atkins. We had some very good recipe threads going about two years ago.

WW is the best overall program I have ever used. You really learn how to eat correctly and gain a clear understanding of how much you can eat and not gain.
I will offer something that may help. If you like to be outside and want to exercise and not really know it, look into this: Geocaching
All you need is a GPS receiver and a sense of adventure. You can easily spend the entire day on the hunt. My wife and I pick out parks we want to go to, plot out on the caches in the park and off we go. You see some amazing sites along the way, the caching serves as a purpose, next thing you know you have walked 10 miles and haven't spent the day with your backside sticking out of the refrigerator.

I did the heart attack diet. Low fat, low salt. Dropped and kept off 45 pounds for the last 3 years. In the winter, I am in the gym 5 days a week - 30 minutes of cardio on an eliptical trainer and about 40 minutes of weight lifting. In the summer (6 months), I ride a bike 200 miles a week and lift weights twice a week. I rode almost 6000 miles last year. FWIW - I am 48 years old, 6'4", 220 and have a body fat of 11%. Not bad shape for an OMF'er!! Freep mail me and I will give you the diet I used.
regards - red

Since I was diagnosed with gall stones my doctor has ordered a strict no fat, no fried food diet. I have lost 42 pounds since the beginning of October.

Hair, go to a Pediatrist and have them make you a set of Orthodics to put in your shoes. That will cure your heel pain. My hubby had his heel spur healed with Orthodics. I tried that and it didn't work for me. I broke down and bought a $189 pair of Birkenstocks and it immediately cleared up and have not had trouble since.
