Barry Bonds was up to his swollen neck in steroid use, as an excerpt from "Game of Shadows" reveals in riveting detail in Sports Illustrated.
Bonds was a walking laboratory of performance-enhancing drugs, according to the two San Francisco Chronicle reporters who have confirmed what has been an open secret for years.
The depth of their reporting is so persuasive that Bonds would be wise not to try to spin it with the race card, the martyr card, the victim card or any other card that is deployed to silence the questioner. He would be wise not to address it beyond what he already has said, which is he has no desire to read the book.
"For what?" he said.
And so we have the beginnings of the final word on Bonds. He made a mockery of the game. He lied. He cheated. And that will be in large measure his legacy.

Pete Rose has a much better chance of getting into the hall of fame.
I don't disagree with you...but believe my comment withstands reality.
No. It's a travesty that anyone thinks he belongs there.
You're obviously new to BaseBall. Its a grand & historical sport. Not for prudes and teetolalers. Life ain't a Temperance Society meeting and neither is BaseBall.
All three of these dopers are guilty as sin. Recall McGwire refused to answer questions about his steroid use during his playing career at the congressional hearings. Uh Huh. Marris is still the real deal.
It's a TRAVESTY that one of the greatest players at his position should not be in the Hall of Fame??!! How lame is that?
In Pittsburgh he was known as "The Choker".
naaah, no 'roid use goin' on there, huh.
Just because a grown man goes from a 6 3/4 hat size to 8 5/8, does not mean that he is taking any growth supplements.
Let's give him the benefit of the doubt.
Baseball is about integrity. Any player or manager compromising the integrity of the game by gambling deserves to be denied entrance to the Hall.
You are obviously new to baseball. The sport hasn't tolerated Rose's kind of behavior for over a hundred years.
I ain't impressed. If you are unable to see the contributions Pete Rose made to BaseBall you are failing in your perspective. Nobody is asking you, or anyone else to like him, just to be honest enough to acknowldge that he, based on his BaseBall playing and stats, deserves recognition and a place in the HoF.
Baseball is a game of rules and statistics...
Baseball is not a game for chemistry mutant freaks, who cheat and lie...
Baseball is dead, but for folks like you -- Freakball is still available... Just keep a separate "Record Book" and build your own Hall of Shame..
Enjoy!

Beg pardon...?
Show me where I have defended, justified or even suggested the allowance of steroids or any type of atheletic-enhancing drugs in the game of BaseBall...can you?...Of course you can't, because it has never happened.
And please, save your "folks like you" comment for a different thread. There is no need to a) make misleading claims about anothers posts b) use perjorative comments unneccessarily.
Bottom Line: I think Pete Rose has the stats and record which justifies his inclusion in the Hall of Fame. Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds and whatever other drug/steroid users do not deserve a place there. Their stats are as tweaked as they were - not legitamate. Chemically enhanced as it were.
Thats my argument. Nothing more.
I was addressing the post above -- YOUR POST -- which certainly sounds tolerant of chemistry "enhanced" players.
If I missread your intent - I apologize.
