[David] Wells Doesn't Want Bonds to Pass Ruth
MSNBC ^ | 03/08/2006 | AP

FORT MYERS, Fla. - David Wells gave up Barry Bonds’ 701st home run. He doesn’t want the Giants slugger to pass Babe Ruth’s total of 714.

“No. Not really,” the Boston Red Sox left-hander said Wednesday, one day after excerpts of a book were released alleging that Bonds used steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs.

Bonds needs seven homers to pass Ruth for second place and 48 to overtake Hank Aaron for the top spot.

Wells praised Bonds’ baseball skills but said he should “be a man and come out and say that he did it” if he used steroids.

I noticed your /s tag at the end, but really, would it be that bad?

Have all the sluggers pop whatever pills they need to to crack a dozen home runs per game. Inject whatever into the pitchers so they throw 100+mph fastballs until the 12th and 13th innings.

Let's make this game interesting again!

It's been tried.

Bonds' 232 walks in '04 is far and away all-time record (he holds the top 3 spots), and he still managed to hit 45 HRs.

I agree. For all his ability, he is a total arsehole. If he should pass the Babe or Hammering Hank, it should be decreed that an asterik appears beside his record with a notation that the record is questionable because it is based on performance enhancing drugs.

Either that or give Roger Maris his asterik back with the notation of "best single season record for a player who didn't use performance enhancing drugs."

These dopers are a disgrace to the greatest sport ever invented and those who made it. It would be even better to see Bonds banned for life.

Well I guess MLB will turn a blind eye to these beefy players Sammy, Mark and Barry and pretend they are deserving record holders and guys like Maris, Mays, Ruth and Hank who did not have the assistance of performance enhencing steroids are now second class players compared to the cheaters.

In my record book there will never be a Bonds, Sosa or Mcguire, only the guys who did it on their own.

Does anyone believe Bret Boone's work out story? I read it about five years ago in playboy. He hired a PT who worked his butt off to get in him in shape. He went from a 38" to 32" waiste. Why didn't Barry do something like that?

By "total package" does that include choking three years in a row in the NLCS while playing for the Pirates (I would include VanSlyke, and Bonilla as chokers)?

Well I guess MLB will turn a blind eye to these beefy players as long as it sells tickets.

MLB has become a second or third class sport because of these cheats.

Bonds was the total package and he didn't need to do roids in order to be great.

Yeah, but he DID need steroids to hit 700 home runs.

I hope he hits his 714th and 715th home runs in his last game in a MLB uniform, then loses them when the game gets rained out before the 5th inning.

No. Most people believe that BB's "retirement" had been quietly planned for quite a while.

Rose never apologized for gambling and always gave MLB the finger whenever asked about it. In fact he's been unrepentant about it and always pitted himself as the victim. I don't care how many hits he has. The guy's a scumbag.

Yes, Pete Rose broke the records while being clean. He tarnished baseball's reputation by his betting. As a result, he has not been voted into the Hall of Fame. Bonds has cheated his way into the record books and thus tarnished the game. he also should be kept out of the Hall of Fame. Same for McGuire, Palmeiro, and Sosa. Some people say that Bonds would have been a Hall of Famer even he had retired back in 1998, before he started doing drugs. That's probably true. But Rose also would have been in the Hall if he had quit before he started betting on games. Since Rose hasn't gotten in the Hall, then Bonds shouldn't get in either.

I think we should put Bonds back on the steroids so that he can hit 1,000 home runs by the time he is 50. Barry Bond is the greatest baseball player of alltime of those who used steroids. He should be in the steroids Hall of Fame.

No doubt. ....Rose is a first class a-hole who, like Bonds, shouldn't even get a sniff at the Hall. But at least there'll never be any asterisks next to his name in the record books.

An asterick is far to good for this slimeball. The Olympic standard is the right way. If caught doping you loose medal and your results are stricken from the records. Period. Its as if you didnt exist.
